Much like the misguided Pandora of Greek legend, George Bush, through a combination of willfulness, compulsiveness, and a refusal to heed the wisdom of opposing voices, has opened a veritable Pandora’s Box of troubles in the world with his misguided adventure in Iraq. What was to be a brief excursion in the spreading of American hegemony has instead turned into a nightmare of American failure and loss. And, as the spiraling disaster spreads ever more out of control, the situation has escalated from an upsurge in terrorism inside Iraq, to a vicious anti-American insurgency, to a burgeoning Iraqi civil war, and, finally, to the growing probability of a regional war in the oil-producing Middle East.
The confluence of astrological indications for increased strife and upset in 2007 and 2008 is both astounding and frightening. One can always hope that the various participants will show self-restraint, but the temptation for further conflict will be strong. The chart for the Iraq War suggests that there will be no letup at least through 2008, though that year will bring a ferocious struggle for ultimate domination with transiting Pluto square to the natal Sun (29Pisces04) through November. It is possible that this transit will mark the final transformation of the situation that leads to the end of the conflict, at least for the US, in 2009. Meanwhile, the year 2007 will see the beginnings of that potent power struggle, particularly in February and March, when Pluto comes very close to stationing square the War chart Sun, and the progressed Moon crosses natal Pluto and the MC. But for the most part, 2007, with Pluto square the War chart Mercury (27Pisces14), will see a deepening distrust and tension between the various factions, increasing extremism, and a tendency for a breakdown in communications.

And finally, the charts of George Bush and that of his 2005 Inauguration both indicate 2007, in particular, as a year of aggression, potential over-optimism/recklessness, and possible unilateral action. Again it is the Uranus transit that is the big player here, moving into a square with the Inaugural Mars (18Sagittarius01) from April through early August 2007 and again in February 2008, as well as into a quincunx with Bush’ s natal Jupiter/progressed Mars conjunction (18Libra08) for most of April through July 2007. We will see Bush attempt to once again take on the mantle of the Warrior Chief. However, with transiting and tertiary Saturn hovering near his Venus (21Leo30) for much of 2007, it is doubtful he will be able to generate much popularity for his actions.
Of further concern is the strong indication of self-delusion and possible religious grandiosity in Bush’s chart which will be very significant from March through mid-July 2007 when Neptune transits opposite Bush’s natal Venus. This aspect will continue to exert influence through November 2008. The tenuous connection to reality already exhibited by our Commandant-in-Chief will stretch even further from the Earth in early 2007, just as his aggressive instincts will once again become agitated. This is a very dangerous combination, especially while tensions are heating up globally. One can only hope that some of these aggressive aspects will be played out in battling a Democratic Congress bent on investigation and oversight rather than in battling some fantasy-inflated enemy on distant shores, a battle likely to have dangerous global repercussions. http://starlightnews.com/pandorabox.html
