I just wanted to tell all who responded to my thread earlier:
http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=show_mesg&forum=245&topic_id=28959&mesg_id=28959that, as several of you pointed out to me, I need to be PATIENT. (DUH!!)
If you recall the story in the above thread, husband lost a job at a club about a month and a half ago or so.
Found out 3 days ago said club has CLOSED.
Aha ha ha. (sorry, tiny bit of shadenfraude (sp?) there--he TOLD them they were messing up).
Turns out that the reason it was
so easy to let him go was not because he was being a problem or in the middle of drama, but because they 1)couldn't afford to have him make the company as much money as he was making them, and 2)they are getting ready to re-open it as an urban club, which means he is the wrong style (read:color) dj for them.
--BEFORE you get upset with me for that last comment; you have to understand the way this business works--it's still very split along color and culture lines when it comes to the 'style' of a club. Of course my husband could feasibly dj an urban-style gentleman's club-but the owners want the
perception of the club to be a certain way, and my long-haired husband does not fit the bill. There's still and inherent racism going on in a serious way in this particular industry; it's one of those things that's hard to prove and OF COURSE goes mainly the OTHER way than this example..the only ones crossing the line regularly are the dancers..we are working from the inside out to try and bring this business to a different understanding of itself. But, that's a whole other discussion--
ANYway, sorry for the long explanation, but I wanted you all to see how I am understanding how this all played out the best way it could considering. IF he had not lost his job when he did, he would not now have the 2 jobs that he has, because of a shuffling of local djs (all of whom are our friends) that allowed him to slide right into a slot in the next town, and pick up another slot in the same town (ironically run by a guy who used to work with him in the club he got fired from! HA!. Sure, we have still had some serious problems (I believe that darn Mercury retrograde is kicking us good in the butt) but it's a little clearer to see the light at the end now.
As I said before, somebody just cyber-slap me when I get hysterical about my life. It IS all ok. I'm just a damn Leo sometimes.:eyes:
Other funny thing: I was perusing my bookmarks here last night, and ran across the thread Ladyhawk had posted about leaving some months ago. I was interested because she was talking about the traits of a sensitive person, and had lots of resources on that page about it. I re-read it last night and was just looking up some of the resources today(and lamenting that she was gone), when to my suprise...
http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=show_mesg&forum=105&topic_id=5800500&mesg_id=5800957I know I do that with the TV and phone calls...no biggie, seems a lot of us do..but this is the first time over the computer.Just a little funny.
