JANUARY prayer request, light and healing thread
On Time

And an astronomer said, "Master, what of Time?"

And he answered:

You would measure time the measureless and the immeasurable.

You would adjust your conduct and even direct the course of your spirit according to hours and seasons.

Of time you would make a stream upon whose bank you would sit and watch its flowing.

Yet the timeless in you is aware of life's timelessness,

And knows that yesterday is but today's memory and tomorrow is today's dream.

And that that which sings and contemplates in you is still dwelling within the bounds of that first moment which scattered the stars into space.

But if in you thought you must measure time into seasons, let each season encircle all the other seasons,

And let today embrace the past with remembrance and the future with longing.

Khalil Gibran

Happy New Year to all!

January, being the start of a new year, is generally a time of hope and new beginnings. Hope for the future; out with the old, in with the new.

However, if we are not living consciously, or being mindful, we often set unrealistic goals for ourselves, or give up in the process (the new year's resolutions that last all of a month...).

There is no reason to throw the baby out with the bathwater; we can take the positive lessons with us in our journey, while letting go of unnecessary baggage, that which does not aid us in our journey. Much of that has to do with recognition and acceptance of what has happened, then letting go. There may be much griefwork involved in that process. Keeping it along with us only punishes ourselves, however, and keeps us prisoners in the end.

This is a ritual that I practice every New Years day that I'd like to share.

After a meditation, or a period of reflection on the past year, I write down what I wish to release from the previous year (I have started to break it up so that this part of the exercise I do New Year's Eve, and part II and III New Year's Day; whichever works for you).

I then burn the paper it is written on (please be careful when one does this...though it may be a small piece of paper, safety is paramount. One does not want to start the New Year homeless!) I tend to roll it up and put it in a bowl or chalice filled with sand. I then light it. A fireplace should work very well, too.

The second part involves another meditation or period of reflection, where I write down my hopes, wishes and goals, in present tense (ie I am working at a position where I can utilize my talents and abilities much more and am happy with, I am healing from xxxx, I am taking the xxxx classes/lessons I’ve always wanted to, etc) ; which not only concretizes and affirms it to ourselves, but imparts it to the Universe. I also write down the gifts the previous year has brought to me, and what I would like to carry forward.

The last part of the exercise, on a separate piece of paper, involves stating what would be something that would hold me back from accomplishing my goals – whether they be emotional, spiritual, materialistic…personal or universal goals. Some examples could be a fear of loss of control or change (change is often unnerving, even if it is for the better!), feeling that one doesn't deserve success, etc. Write those down, and know that these may be things to begin (or keep) working on, for ourselves. We are always a work in progress.

I roll those two papers, secure it with a beautiful ribbon, and put it in a special place, to be taken out in a year's time.

As a totally different exercise from the above - I then find and write an affirmation that appeals to my particular situation, and say it once every day. I may find I move on to another after weeks, perhaps months.

I chose this particular one for this year:

May my feet rest firmly on the ground

May my head touch the sky

May I see clearly

May I have the capacity to listen

May I be free to touch

May my words be true

May my heart and mind be open

May my hands be empty to fill the need

May my arms be open to others

May my gifts be revealed to me

So that I may return that which has been given

Completing the great circle.

— The Terma Collective

I have seen where, in many women’s groups, parts II and III are shared with the group. There is self empowerment - and responsibility to those goals - once they are shared. If anyone is interested in that, we could start another thread on that topic alone…or perhaps you’d like to share your own ritual, here, on this thread.

"If you have built castles in the air,
your work need not be lost;
that is where they should be.
Now put foundations under them"

Henry David Thoreau

"I can't believe that," said Alice.

"Can't you?" the Queen said, in a pitying tone.
"Try again; draw a long deep breath and shut your eyes."

Alice laughed. "There's no use trying," she said. "One can't believe impossible things."

"I dare say you haven't had much practice," said the Queen. When I was younger, I always did it for half an hour each day. Why, sometimes I've believed in as many as six impossible things before breakfast."

Lewis Carroll

May all your dreams manifest this coming year, for the highest good of all involved. :)

4. Absolutely beautiful, u4ic. Thank you so much for giving me so much...
to contemplate. I love the approach that you took for January's thread.

I ask that the Universe bless you for all of your efforts to put such beautiful energy into the beginning of this prayer/light/healing thread. (I know that it took a great deal of energy for you to do this, and I can't tell you how grateful I am to you for your efforts.)

5. Lovely opening. I hate to be the first to ask ...
... but please send some healing energy and strength my way, regarding a situation that's been simmering with my very rude (fairly new) upstairs neighbor.

I filed a complaint with the office about his noise in November and they sent him a letter, yet this morning his home theatre was so loud one could hear the movie's dialogue standing downstairs by the mailboxes. I went up and said "Do you mind? It's quite loud" and he replied "I don't care. And if you knock on my door again I'm calling the police." Yes, he's that obnoxious.

I invited him to do so, then they could hear how loud his stuff was and cite him for noise. I also stated that I was going to file a complaint with the office on Tuesday morning. Already hand wrote it and slid it under the office door, and left them a voicemail message where to find it in the AM.

Anyway, I know he's going to counter with some BS about me - or worse - my dogs (I have reference letters on file in the office from every neighbor I've ever had on their manners, so they should be ok) ... I'm bracing for an ugly couple months until mgmt can move me into a new apartment across the street.

I'm so angry. I hate feeling this way. I'm just shaking. My jaws hurt. I have a tummy ache.

All I want when I have time at home is peace and quiet - to read, sleep, surf DU :) - and I get a butthead like this on top of me. What's the lesson? (Aside from: Thou Shalt Not Kill)

Thanks in advance ... O8)

6. Oh, I've been there, hippiechick. I'll definitely send you peaceful, calming energy to help you...
get through this.

A few physical things that have worked for me are ear plugs and putting on headphones with relaxing music. I've suggested this to some people in the past who've said that they should not have to do this in their own home, and I totally agree. However, until you can get the situation resolved, this might really help.

(My own personal pet peeve in reference to noise is with people who allow their dogs to bark for long periods of time outside. I just get irrate when this happens. I even had a neighbor who had a dog that would bark out the window while they were not home.)

I ask the Universe to help to resolve this problem quickly and without incident. (This or something better for the highest good of all involved.)

7. Thanks IHAD ...
... earplugs and I are longtime companions. :) I just hate having to use them for long periods of time because they give me a wierd headache.

I've lit all my candles, did a smudging, and have some (quiet) ambient music playing in the back ground ... so at least my blood pressure is receding a bit.

I have only a few times in my life really and truly wanted to strike someone. It frightened me to
have that much anger toward him - a person I don't even know - because he's being so purposefully
rude. :(

8. Do they have 311 there?
That's the non emergency number for calling the police. Most cities have noise ordinances. They will just ask him to turn it down. My former roommate bought an HDTV and watched movies on seven speakers 16 hours a day. I thought I would have to sleep in my car! It was so wonderful to move out and SLEEP! That's a form of torture, you know. He is the one breaking the law, and being rude about it. I've been 'trying' to practice the lesson in 'The Secret', that the more I resist and rail against something, the bigger it gets and the more irate I get. Can't say I'm very successful yet, but I try to relax into the moment. Of course if my neighbor was playing stuff that loud, I would relax into the moment of calling 311.

Healing Love and Illuminating Light for the Highest good of the Universe and all involved. amen .

10. You can call noise abatement
if your landlord does not do anything. However you may want to check with your local ordinances, too. They define "nuisance" differently by time, frequency and loudness etc.

quiet enjoyment

The right of a property owner or tenant to enjoy his or her property without interference. Disruption of quiet enjoyment may constitute a nuisance. Leases and rental agreements often contain a "covenant of quiet enjoyment," expressly obligating the landlord to see that tenants have the opportunity to live undisturbed.

16. I will send you light, hippiechick
for the vast majority of us, home is a haven, where we can relax and wind down...feel safe. This is blatant intrustion, and it's obvious you do not have the comfort that you need.

Having been in that situation before - and on more than one occasion, I sympathise. I would call the police, if the landlord doesn't do anything (in fact, check your lease, all mine have mentioned noise policies, though they are often reluctant to do anything about them, unfortunately).

Perhaps the lesson is about personal space, and owning one's own power. Which may include confronting someone you don't wish to (even if it is through the cops), to maintain your quiet space and peace of mind...

I got an offer today on a part time job that seemingly fell out of the sky on Tuesday.
The hours fit perfectly opposite my full-time hours, and the income will allow me to have the minimum for a downpayment on a house in just a few months!

I'll be away from the noisy man, away from apartment life, in a house for me and my doggies and able to get some long-term tax benefits and peace of mind!!!

37. Hi Cassie,
Absolutely. The office mgr called when she got my notes to let me know "his letter's in the mail".

And talking with another tenant, apparently Mr. Noise is recently divorced and enjoys his liquor - which explains both the disdain for females and obnoxious attitude. (When he moved in a few months ago, we passed each other out on the sidewalk - I smiled and said "Hey, welcome to the neighborhood!" He looked at me like I was something he scraped of the bottom of his shoe and kept walking.)

Doesn't excuse it, but does explain it a little.

I definitely have no intention of getting within 50 feet of him ever again. Other tenant even said that if there's an additional noise issue, he would file a complaint with the office so it doesn't look like its just me whining ... and this complex has a "3 strikes and you're out" policy.

One more and he gets evicted.

thank you for letting us glide into a New Year with such a wonderful message.

We are all recovering from being miserably sick with a stomach flu here and I was not able to do any of our usual family rituals, including listening to the temple bells sounding rythmically across Japan (in a tv program these days) The 108 afflictions being purified to take us into the New Year. (Joya No Kane)
15 minutes before midnight the partying stops, and people get mindful and reflect on their past year, and hopes for the new..

This certainly fills that and more...

now at 1/2 century on this planet you start realizing how engrained the sound is - and how soothing it was back then - and considering all temples and an entire country listening to the sounds must have some effect to the vibrations of everyone
(We can normally watch it on Tv here, too - if not in bed)

Said so simply and so completely. Thank you.

Since I over analyze, allow me. The metaphyscians tell us that matter, and we, are mostly holes and spaces. To pray for the gaps! That is the true essence. Of course we all have the illusions of giving up or having lost. But we cannot lose the gaps.

I don't think I said this right. It is just that I think your prayer is perfect. Hope I didn't screw it up.

19. Thank you for a beautiful opening to the new year, u4ic.
Edited on Wed Jan-03-07 03:56 AM by SeattleGirl
I just finished reading my free copy of "The Secret", which I absolutely loved. I decided to try a manifestation -- a small one, like the book suggests -- and I manifested what I wanted within 3 hours, which just really energized me.

I have three main goals for this year, and am doing affirmations and visualizations for those goals. I am focusing on the manifestation of the goals, and not the HOW of attaining them, as talked about in "The Secret". I've often gotten hung up on that in the past; twisting myself into knots trying to figure out the "how", and thus in effect, blocking myself from receiving what I have asked for.

If I could make a request, it is for some light and positive energy that I will achieve my goals. It is of course ultimately up to me, but a little extra boost never hurts.

May you all have a blessed 2007.

You may have missed this clearing process when I posted it in last month's prayer thread. It works on non-cognitive levels eliminating the need to know, judge, compare and bargain. I've found it helpful to clear and relax/focus me. The best to you in all the days to come, SG, easily and with grace.

without a military crisis. I don't think it's going to get to the crisis (read: nuclear) point, but I did get a small, funny tingle about Iran late yesterday afternoon. A candle or two for peace would really help, I think.

Iran could make you churn inside.

But headlines today are the DEMS are taking the heads off the pubs.
Sweet music.

No. They won't be able to take Iran. What is the point?
I hope my gut tells true. It is all posturing.

There is no point whatsoever in beginning a nuclear war. Which attacking Iran would be.
Or India, Pakistan, Israel.

My belief is it is just so much who is the biggest rooster. Typical male dominant behavior.
Not to mention, what drugs does Iran have?

48. I'd like to put the energy of the following prayer and visualization into this thread.
Gayatri

You who are the source of all power,
Whose rays illuminate the world,
Illuminate also my heart
So that it too can do Your work.

While reciting the Gayatri, visualize the sun's rays streaming forth into the world, entering your heart, then streaming out from your heart's center and back into the world. This is a powerful and life-enhancing prayer.

Practice the art of doing without doing: Aim yourself truly and then maintain your aim without manipulative effort. Meditate on Christ's words: I can of mine own self do nothing. (John 5:30)*. For by our own power, we do nothing: Even in loving, it is Love that loves through us. This way of thinking and being integrates new energies and permits us to flow into wholeness, which is the ultimate goal of the Spiritual Warrior.

- Taken from "The Book of Runes" by Ralph H. Blum

* - Even if one is not a Christian, these words can still be inspirational, so I chose to include them.

51. The Litany Against Fear:
I must not fear.
Fear is the mind-killer.
Fear is the little-death that brings total obliteration.
I will face my fear.
I will permit it to pass over me and through me.
And when it has gone past I will turn the inner eye to see its path.
Where the fear has gone there will be nothing.
Only I will remain.

She just managed to slip and fall on the single icy patch on her entire goddamn driveway. Absolutely slammed her chin, knee and (owee) pelvic bone into hard cement. While she is extraordinarily thankful that nothing was broken and not badly bruised, her knee is sore and she would love it if that did not get any worse. Yes, she understands that this is probably some kind of cosmic reminder to slow down and also to continue to make plans to get out of Hell House (the roommates' response? "Grow up"), but right now she just wants the healing light. Iris: Western OR: knee, pelvis. Thanks!

115. Another thought on How I Survived Intact: Ecodent toothpaste.
Edited on Tue Jan-16-07 02:41 PM by BlueIris
First of all, this is excellent toothpaste. It is the single greatest toothpaste I have ever tried. I mainly like it because it's very granular, and that combined with my beloved Sonicare keeps the teeth nice and smooth and plaque-free. But its main claim to fame is that it "hardens teeth without flouride." I had noticed recently that my teeth were actually a little harder than they had been when I still used toothpastes that did have the flouride in them. I really think the fall was the acid test re: Ecodent's effectiveness, so I recommend it to everyone here.

I seem to have come to face something on a personal and relationship plane that is very very scary and depressing. It appears that now that the financial situation has calmed down a bit; the other has erupted.
I believe I am facing some decisions in my personal life that are potentially very drastic.
This morning I admit I found myself thinking that if it were not for my loving baby boy I would choose not to be here at all anymore. This scared me.
I will be seeking help at Al-Anon this afternoon. Any thoughts you could spare me would be greatly appreciated.

88. May you attain balance
positive vibrations for you...

From the Buddhist point of view, being in a depressed state, in a state of discouragement, is seen as a kind of extreme that can clearly be an obstacle to taking the steps necessary to accomplish one's goals. A state of self-hatred is even far more extreme than simply being discouraged, and this can be very, very dangerous. For those engaged in Buddhist practice, the antidote to self-hatred would be to reflect upon the fact that all beings, including oneself, have Buddha Nature--the seed or potential for perfection, full Enlightenment--no matter how weak or poor or deprived one's present situation may be.
So those people involved in Buddhist practice who suffer from self-hatred or self-loathing should avoid contemplating the suffering nature of existence or the underlying unsatisfactory nature of existence, and instead they should concentrate more on the positive aspects of one's existence, such as appreciating the tremendous potential that lies within oneself as a human being. And by reflecting upon these opportunities and potentials, they will be able to increase their sense of worth and confidence in themselves.

109. Some mornings
I wake up with deep fear and terror. Even though I believe in the Light.
One thing that helps me is to lie a bit in bed and give myself affirming thoughts over and over.
Defeat the fear. I believe depression is fear. I've amassed a great deal of positive material, and it doesn't have to be anything formal. It used to be. A morning meditation can make the furies run. Just think of something positive. Silva has something I have used. Say something to yourself, like this is going to be a positive day and I feel GREAT!

So sorry you are going through that. What can you tell yourself to make yourself feel better?
Say it. Whatever trouble is on your mind, affirm the positive outcome.
If you feel too weak to imagine, trust that something better will turn out. Or even that it is okay for you to hibernate. Be gentle with yourself.

And above all, know the bright days of spring are coming. The dark days of winter are very hard to bear sometimes. There is a new spring coming.

I'm glad you posted. We all need to be lifted up.

90. Please pray for peace and release for my father.
He is very near death and we have all expected him to leave at any moment since last Friday. We have all told him that it's okay for him to go on, but he is hanging on by a thread. Please help us pray that he can release whatever is holding him here. Thank you.

127. when my dad left
Edited on Wed Jan-17-07 03:38 AM by votesomemore
the family had been around for two weeks.

He did not go until his college friend came from VA. That gave him some peace that we would all be okay. He left the very next morning.

Does Jappel's father have someone like that he can entrust his loved one's to?
That's what we worry about. Who will take care of them?

My dad even asked a minister. He said we would take care of ourselves.
But he could not let go until BJ got there.

Just sayin. I can imagine it is hard to let go until you know your loved ones are cared for.

Do you think sometimes the holes don't need to be filled?

My grandfather was a witch. He didn't call it that. But all the same he was.

He taught me, you dig a hole on one moon, and you have more dirt to fill.
You dig a hole on a different moon, and have less dirt, to fill.

Sometimes. The hole just need to be left unfilled.

I miss him. I didn't learn enough.

btw. I have a hole that I'm not gonna fill.  We can't do it all.

a little late. Recovering from hernia repair surgery. Got a nice slice across my lower abdomen to put my guts back in place. My brother had the laparoscopic option over the summer. Feeling better, with help from my TCM doctor and health food store. I have a mini-apothecary in my kitchen. Don't have to use the pain pills as often. Hope to go to work for a few hours tomorrow.

I should probably spend a little more time over here.

118. Also, could everyone please pray that I survive the Chiron

I really would like to clear it without taking a (censored) to my (insert random family member's name here)'s head. Seriously. My entire family is comprised of such vile, hateful people. I thought I had finally accepted that they would never feel remorse for the things they did to me (because, you know, abusers) but now I find myself livid again.

Unfortunately, the vast majority of abusers do not feel remorse.

I really do feel for you. It's something I've had to deal with in my life, too. I know it has hit me hard on several times in my life - albeit less and less each time (as I deal with it).

The anger is part of the healing process. Feeling anything is part of the healing process...some just shut down altogether.

Feel free to PM me if you need extra support.

pshaw. Blue Ice fall down .. oops . he . just a bit of levity.

Try h'o pono ponopono. It works. It changes people. If that's what you want.

It is the only thing I have ever found to work in this situation.
Others may have another suggestions.
Forgive. It's hard to say .. I love you.. I forgive you .. thank you .. will you forgive me.

It gets easier. It will change your life. When you're ready.

Somehow I knew this instinctively, when my ex-m-i-l came over and complained about abuse issues.
I didn't see it in my own life, but I could see it in hers. ex-dh would sit for hours and mourn with her. I was a bit crass and caused a bit of a ruckus because I would not do it! I asked what good is pitty for her? Shouldn't we be doing something to make her feel better?

They do feel something. Love them anyway. Just my .02 ..

ho'pono ponopono

But then again. I could be all wrong.

151. HUGS
Thank you so much. Sunday was especially difficult as a fairly routine procedure landed me in the cardiac unit of the hospital. My BP dropped to 69/14 (not sure about the low #). It would have been scary, but I was so out of it, it wasn't until ER said I was being admitted to see if I was having a heart attack! eeeks! Sunday afternoon was especially traumatic. I was very discouraged at the turn of events.

It all worked out to the good in the long run (of course).

Waiting for discharge Monday afternoon (no heart attack, just sloppy procedure), I did something I never do. Turned on the teevee. After a serious accident which left her in a wheelchair, Dharma told Gregg how she was used to the same'o, being a certain card in a deck layout but the Universe shuffled the deck and she now found she was in a totally different layout. That's exactly how I felt!
The Universe shuffles on a regular basis, doesn't it.

Home and all better now.

Thanks for all the wonderful support.

She spoke the truth with class and humor.
I cannot imagine anyone filling her shoes.
She will be missed a great deal.

172. I think, she will send someone
perhaps whisper in a talented but unkown columnists' ear.... and it may just be my wish to be so.

173. I would like to close this thread
with a work from Ted Loder, and inspired by the late, great Molly Ivins:

Empower me
to be a bold participant,
rather than a timid saint in waiting,
in the difficult ordinariness of now;
to exercise the authority of honesty;
rather than to defer to power,
or deceive to get it;
to influence someone for justice,
rather than impress anyone for gain;
and, by grace, to find treasures
of joy, of friendship, of peace
hidden in the fields of the daily
you give me to plow.
