I'm not really very good at sluicing out potential futures yet, but I've been "getting" a lot of stuff this week for weird reasons (don't ask):
--Something about bird flu (not necessarily an outbreak, but I think people could wind up being really afraid for a while...again).
--Like Sylvia Brown, I'm sensing something about Hepatitis C in the news, and possibly something about new public awareness re: this disease, coupled with greater public concern about the safety of the US blood supply.
--I'm starting to get some very weird vibes about John McCain. My current feeling is that he's going to wait until the last possible second in 2007 to tell the GOP he won't be their nominee next time around...then declare as an independent. More and more, I think Chuck Hagel gets the GOP nomination, which probably won't matter as I am still confident of a Dem presidency beginning in '09, but--there may be a lot of weirdness surrounding McCain in 2007. He's still having health issues, and I don't think the Republicans are going to be happy at his decision to well, tell them to screw off. At all.
--I'm not having a good feeling about July of next year for this country. No, I don't feel we will be at risk for more "terrorism," but..."July of 2007" has been worrying me for two years.
--I have a heavy, depressive feeling about US economic woes in 2007, although curiously, it isn't about the stock exchange, or the dollar (though common sense tells us those are both major potential trouble spots, of course). If I had to guess, I'd say that fears about US economic collapse will be increasingly in the forefront of the minds of the "reality based" public, and maybe even the general public soon. I'm also not feeling optimistic about housing--prices or availability.
--Hmmm, what else: strangely, I don't have any "big" news about celebrities, even though, like Sylvia, I tend to "check up" on them occasionally, since I find them to be a) easy to read, and b) fun to think about (sometimes). Additionally, they're a fun barometer for some mainstream social opinions on issues and living. Okay, I guess I do have some minor ones: possible second Oscar for Sean Penn; Ryan Phillipe may discuss his sexual orientation in the media; Britney Spears' decline into insanity and poverty continues (I actually think she'll lose custody of her sons, though maybe not this coming year); I think the next major celebrity to pass on will be Mick Jagger; I've gotten weird vibes about both Michael and Janet Jackson and Burt Reynolds. No idea what those last ones are about though.
So, anyone else?
