Mercury?
Hola all, and happy new year!

Question for all you great astrologers here: What does seeing references to Mercury mean?

For anyone who doesn't know, toddler MG Jr. is obsessed with cars and has learned all (and I mean ALL) the "emblems". "What's that one?" "Subaru!" Not bad for a 3-year-old. So because of his fascination with "emblems", when we're driving anywhere I find myself looking out for ones that might challenge him (hardly any--just Infinity stumps him at this point).

So this morning (day after my birthday if it matters), I saw a ridiculous number of Mercuries. I know they're few and far between because of Jr.'s emblems game, but on this morning's 25-minute commute I saw at least five.

So...what does that mean, astrologically? Anything? Nothing?

Much obliged! :hi:

1. Happy belated birthday Morning Glow !!!

Welp. . .Mercury rules communication and how we project and perceive information. It represents our style of thinking and possible clarity of mind or lack thereof.

It is currently transiting within 2 degrees of the Sun. There will be a conjunction of the Sun and Mercury at 1:05 am EST on Sunday. That's not that unusual and happens about 6 times a year relative to its retrogration cycle.

But it would be conjunct your Sun (via combust) in your Solar return chart for the year so honing your communication skills and thought processes might be incredibly rewarding this year.

It may be easier to resolve or avoid misunderstandings as well.

Any meditations or healings wherein you focus on your third eye would be very empowering as well.

Not knowing the rest of your data, that's about all I can say specifically in terms of this phenomenon.

Physically Mercury rules the corpus callosum which links the left and right brain and is typically larger in women (a possible evolutionary trait developed to perhaps strain to figure out what the heck guys are on about.) It also rules the pineal gland.

Hope that helps. I'll tune in and see if I can get anything further later.

Basically though I tend to read symbolism into almost everything and conversely as the old adage goes, "sometimes a pencil is just a pencil." LOL

2. LOL Not a pencil in this case!
Wow stellanoir, that's fantastic! Thanks so much! The reason I asked about Mercury is I can tell when the universe is whomping me over the head (as opposed to when I go looking for things that can be symbolic), and this one really felt like I was being told to pay attention.

And from what you said, that seems to be the case. Right now I'm pondering not so much IF I should stay at my traditional 9-to-5 hellhole but WHEN I should tell this place to shove it and freelance. So this information is very helpful and very pertinent to what's on my mind. Communication--check. (I'm a writer by trade. I'm also air magick.) Clarity of mind--check. (I am figuring out which direction to take my life.) Right/left brain connection--check. (I find I have a very strong desire to balance my professional life, creative life, and "mommy" life.)

So this info about Mercury is way helpful.

Thanks again, stella!

5. When something like that happens to me ...
.... I see the 'symbology' as a hint in terms of 'who do I know that has one of those' that I might have unresolved issues with, or who might be trying to get in touch with me, or who might need me but I don't know it ?

For example: I documented (not so privately) the falling out I had with a potential BF on this forum earlier this fall. He drives a 2004 White Caddy SLS.

I rarely saw them prior to our 'war'.
In the months since, I can barely get a block from my house without crossing paths with at least one.
I count 7 or 8 of them in an average day - all the same model as his.
WTF is Spirit trying to tell me?
That, I don't know - yet.

Is it a message, or am I just now noticing something(s) that was always there but my eyes weren't attuned?

The universe is constantly talking to us--but are we astute enough to figure out the secret language?

I just e-mailed my best friend and told her about the Mercury thing this morning and she reminded me it's Wednesday--ruled by Mercury. D'OH! Missed that one entirely! Sheesh. :silly:

7. I have a funny Mercury story
I was planning a ritual invocation of Mercury once - and I took off the wednesday I was going to do it and went shopping for supplies. I'm in downtown Seattle at lunch time and there's all these business people bustling around and suddenly I felt very - um, stupid? crazy? something like that. Out shopping for magic supplies while everyone around me was doing important, grown up stuff. Then it occurred to me that Mercury rules the marketplace - that busy downtown with lots of business going on was ruled by Mercury.

Just as I thought that - this guy runs up beside me while I'm waiting for the crosswalk light, dressed in a sort of tacky winged hat, winged shoes, AND a caduceus! I kid you not. He runs out into the intersection against the light, does a little dance and runs off.

Left me laughing like a crazy person ;-)

11. Is there anything in your office
at work that reminds you of Mercury?

I have a trick, which I almost feel guilty about. I've read that Topaz can make one invisible. I don't have an actual chunk of it. I need to update my small collection with a couple of items. However, when I drive, I like to be incognito. I'm not breaking any laws, as far as I know, but I prefer not to draw attention to myself. I had to once park downtown at a broken meter, and I didn't know what to do about it. I envisioned Topaz for my car. Suddenly, I started seeing Topaz color everywhere. This really works well when driving, because there's always the yellow light. This day, I saw someone walk out with a Topaz colored backpack. Then someone had a stuff animal that was the exact color. Someone came by to mop and put up the yellow signs. In this context, "Topaz" is a general term for the yellow/orange. It is everywhere. So, how does this happen? No idea. But I believe it and it seems to 'work'.

Thanks to Stella for providing a very nice explanation. I'm curious. Does 'Mercury' mean anything in particular to you?

12. Good question
Hey VSM,

Good question--I don't, actually, have anything in my office that's Mercury-related (maybe that's why the powers-that-be keep flinging the cars in my path!), nor have I felt overly attuned to the planet or the symbolism. This is coming out of left field, for me. However, I am a writer by trade, so since Mercury rules communication and business, perhaps the universe is answering my request for a sign about what to do regarding my career (which has been pretty dicey lately, obviously, judging from the frequency of my posts on the subject! :D )

Edited on Thu Jan-04-07 12:03 PM by votesomemore
for what kind of freelance work you will do? What about the newsletter?

If Carl Jung can believe in synchronism, so can I, and do. While I was hurting and healing from the painful personal relationship, while doing dishes one night (*btw Julia Cameron, who has done some creative work combined with spiritual progress was a big influence on me six years ago. She said housecleaning can trigger creative thought. I sure hated that idea. But evidently, true), the myth/truth of the Phoenix came to me. And I thought. That is a perfect example of what this has been to me. I understood that parable from a first hand pov. Later that night I was doing my random surfing for interesting sites, and came upon one named, Phoenix. A day or two later, my closest friend used the term. I had never heard her refer to any mythology that way. She has a different mythos. It was just confirmation that the ashes will not prevail. I saw no way that relationship might be healed. Or that I could be a free bird. The work is still in process. Still gives me a great deal of pain sometimes. But a term I had not thought of since who knows when shows up three times in a row, and I pay attention. The relationship has a certain amount of healing and more growth potential. It's kind of cool.

I sort of wish I had the understanding of Stella, Cassie and all the other planetary geniuses we have in our midst. But they do, so it makes it okay.

Maybe (I don't claim any expertise here) .. Mercury is helping you find your voice again. I read where you felt very shut down and not even allowed to do your job! Someone who craves communication is not going to be happy in that situation. If I'm going to go a little mystic, I would say, your voice is ready. Go for it. :D

14. It's been interesting
My biggest apprehension has been that I would have a hard time finding enough freelance jobs for a decent income (because I don't want DH to "cover" my salary by overworking on HIS freelance projects plus his full-time job), but after spending an afternoon trolling several freelance sites, I realized I have nothing to worry about! Of course, all the jobs I CAN do (everything from Web copy to ghostwriting books) aren't necessarily all the bids I will WIN, but it's rejuvenated my spirit, seeing how much is out there and how many new jobs are posted every day.

As for what type of writing I want to do...well, I'm flexible. I definitely won't write term papers that go up for sale online. I consider those things unethical. But I'm up for pretty much anything else on topics I understand or can learn (articles on childcare? sure; physics? uhhhmmmm not so much)--I've done Web writing, feature articles for magazines, interviews and reviews and how-tos, brochures, and chapters of books. I think I'll see what comes up!

Housework, eh? I suppose that's a good way to get yourself to do it! :D I guess you can do anything that will put you in alpha for enough time for the messages to get through. Me, I get my insight when I'm getting ready for work in the morning--there's nothing more routine/boring than taking a shower, doing my hair, and putting on makeup.

Love your phoenix story. Messages from the universe are everywhere--mostly subtle, but then again I get the feeling the universe sometimes gets piqued with us when it sees we're not listening/seeing the messages, and then it hits us with the Obvious Stick!

I feel like it's beating me pretty steadily right now!

Thanks for the vote of confidence, VSM!

I always got A plus. I'm not saying that's right, because everyone needs to learn Chaucer and the girls. Or do they? Some education requirements are ABSURD. Not everyone loves to read or write.

The childcare might be the way to go. When I have searchecd my brain for something I can teach, well I raised a kid with no damages.

I don't know. But I find you an inspiring person. So I know you can do this.

I might be able to write too. But. oh well .. I want you to succeed!

I used to drive a Taurus. When I see the exact model I had, I almost weep.
I loved that car. Unfortunately Ford saw fit to make it extinguishable.
Sooo when I had a little fender bender, it wasn't. It was a total RE-DO.
Taurus figures heavy in what was my life. But I don't have it any more. Got a Huyndai. 10 year warranty, yada. I sure miss my Taurus though. Like driving a sofa.

And I had a good Virgo friend who kept it tuned up or screwed up, depending, I guess, on his Mercury.

26. MorningGlow, a question, if you don't mind?
I keep getting this feeling that there's something you've been planning on writing, but haven't yet put pen to paper, so to speak - you've just been playing with it in your mind.
Is this correct?
If so, you are supposed to get started on it. If not - just ignore, and I'll tell my guide to shut up.

28. Hmmm...interesting question
I don't have an unwritten "great American novel" rolling around in my head or anything like that. I've written novels (with no end) just for fun, but I don't feel compelled to complete any of those at all. They are very old and very disjointed and not marketable.

However, I have been feeling guilty about bailing on a friend who asked me to help with his book proposal. I started to work on it and just didn't have enough time with a FT job and a toddler running around. I did one chapter but didn't finish the second or finish the formal proposal. That has been eating at me since I sent my apologies last summer. (And that was revived when he sent me some money for Christmas, for my work on the one chapter, which I wasn't expecting at all.) (He's a very good person.)

Also, I have gotten back in touch with an editor I was going to write for (magazine articles) and never did, and just as last time, he asked if I would have enough time to devote to writing for the magazine. I said yes, but we're not following up (again). The very minute I'm "free", I'm calling him.

And of course I always have one or two ideas for short stories at the back of my mind.

Do any of those resonate with your guide, or perhaps I'm missing something?

29. Here's what I'm getting:
It doesn't involve anyone else, or their ideas - it's yours alone, but it's something you haven't given a lot of credence to. It "bubbles up" from time to time in your mind, and you play with it, then let it go. You've never written anything on it, because you haven't taken it seriously.
If you start just writing - it will come to you.
Wait a few days and see what "bubbles up" - that phrase keeps repeating - I don't know why.
Sorry, that's all I'm getting, but you'll "know" when it comes back.

30. Curiouser and curiouser, NB
I think I might know what your guide is talking about. DH and I have lived in three homes, and each one was a...um...shithole, actually. I mean we have this pathetic need to take destroyed homes and fix them up. And then, when there's nothing more we can do with them, we end up moving for some reason or other--usually because they're too small.

The one we're in now is plenty large, but needs the most work, and it's kind of frustrating to work on it because it's taking forever (toddler, lack of cash, lack of time in general). We worked hardest on our first home, a wreck of a cottage on a lake. Since it was our first home and the weirdest to fix up, it still holds a place in our hearts (we cried when we moved out).

Anyway, ever since then (we're talking about 10 years now), I've "threatened" to write a book chronicling our trials and tribulations working on it. I jokingly say I'm going to call it "This Old Shithole" to counter the ridiculous "tight budgets" of half a million bucks (and a swarm of workmen and designers) that are "This Old House" standbys.

Of course it will be a humorous book--which VSM can attest to--she thought our tale of the vermin infestation and catching 1,001 chipmunks in our Hav-a-Hart trap was kind of funny.

Think that's the project?

losing you at the shitty 9-5 shit hole, then so be it. You
HAVE to do what's best for you. Mercury is a sign that you
should be looking to the future and doing what seems right to
you.
I agree sometime soon, you should tell our VP to take this job
and shove it. Your DH will pick up the slack, but seriously I
think you can do more than you think. Freelancing and watching
Jr.MG is in your future. Do what feels right to you. If this
is what you need to do then do it.
The toxic environment your in right now is not healthy for
you. :puke:
Please keep us informed on what is going on in your life. Your
story is compelling. I will miss your smiling face and your
help with things that we talk about daily. Keep me up to date
here now that I'm able to post.

Yep, Raiders was Spielberg--and if I recall correctly, it was born out of a bullshitting session with George Lucas. They're working on Raiders IV together I think--coming soon to a theater near you!

As for that stoplight, well, if I delayed you from coming the other way, it was to help you dodge an accident by a split second. Howzat?

41. I feel at home already
Votesomemore,
Thank you for that warm welcome. Yes MorningGlow and I have been friends for about three years. It just took me some time to get the nerve to sign up for the board. As she said, I've been lurking for about two years now. I feel I know alot of you already.
I'm excited to get to know you all better. :loveya:

MG and I have similar paths. She actually is the step that I was missing for years. Thank you for mentioning that. Together we all can make the bridge to a true friendship and a peaceful life. I'm always looking for ways to be at peace. She is one of my missing links. Everything comes together for a reason. We may not know what that is at the time, but within time, we begin to understand what the universe is telling us.

Okay, I finally understand what my guide was trying to tell me - he kept showing me this...um..crappy little house, but I didn't understand the message. Yep, that's the project you should write about. Even those who haven't re-habbed houses will understand what a money, time pit they are. Anyone who's ever owned a house will know, anyone who's ever lived in a crappy house will know.
I hope you go for it!

And a warm welcome to your friend, oceanspirit! :hi:

39. COOL!
Wow, NB, that is wild--you got a visual and everything! (And yeah, the house WAS little AND crappy--the kitchen flooded every time it rained, fer chrissakes!--but it turned out nice in the end.) Your info has given me a real boost. Thank you SO MUCH!

Feel free to give OceanSpirit plenty of shit--she can take it, and dish it out too! :hi:

44. For some reason
this is reminding me of a book I love. Not well known, "The Cat who Came for Christmas".
I even submitted to Writer's Digest, a suggestion for a game .. it was their contest.

A kitty is rescued. The story is delightful .. he finds a new home, and promptly takes it over.

Will you autograph a copy of the house that came to ... ?

50.  I have a technical question
I have felt myself to be a 'writer' since I was six. That's because I love reading.

I was trained as a reporter. I thought it would be a noble career. har har

I am not a Writer! I am a Reporter!

Wow. Doesn't that make it a lot easier? I'm on it. .... Here to report ~
