"Special" abilities...who are the psychic oddballs here at DU?
No one is really an oddball...I was kidding and wanted to get people to at least look at this thread! :) May not be very nice or honest, but nothing will get someone to click a thread where they see conflict. I apologize in advance if I offended anyone!

OK..here are the real questions. What are areas that you feel you have special abilities in? I have seen so many interesting threads here and in the other room (Ancient Wisdom). Seems we have a few astrology gurus, tarot card experts, and others. So where do you excel? What areas do you wish you better with or have tried and not been very successful? I know this is very exposing, so I will share first. Share as much as you feel comfortable with!

Me: I am pretty good at dream interpretations, using both symbolism and intuition. I am not too bad at Tarot cards, but am very slow with them. I can use runes, but not very proficient. I can sense different things in unusual ways (i.e. I can sometimes smell lies...the person speaks and I smell a really bad odor, even over the phone). I also am becoming much better at my witchcraft. I have become more patient (which is a HUGE step for me).

Areas I would like to explore...communicating with the other side, meditation (I suck because I can't get my mind to shut-up!), and astrology (I have some knowledge, but am not good at all).

What about you all?

2. I am really good at Tarot, and I experience odd things through
"smell". I detect the presence of loved ones who have passed on through scent.I also am intuitive and know things about people. I have seen spirits and had some dream communication but very random.I have only had one person I could telepathicly connect with but they have passed on. I suck at meditiation and seem ,sofar, I don't try often or intensely, at the crystal ball. I do sometimes receive audio messages.

84. Have you tried guided meditation tapes/cds at all? Or using the
breath?

I had problems with meditation for years as I couldn't keep my "monkey mind" quiet. I then tried a couple of good guided meditations, and then graduated myself by using circular breathing.

3. I don't have any that stand out.
I can sometimes read cards; not formal "Tarot," as that particular system of reading repelled me like oil in water. I use other decks not based on the Tarot.

I don't really have anything that stands out in any particular way; but I do have some small gifts.

I excel at seeing the "big" picture, and finding connections.

I'm highly intuitive. That's my word for knowing things, but not knowing "why" I know them, and finding out later that I was "right." It's been the journey of a lifetime to learn to trust that "knowing."

I am learning to converse with my guides; I'm finding that they are there, and will respond, any time I think to include them in my inner conversation.

I can sometimes "smell" energy. Particularly useful since an accident damaged my olfactory nerves a few years back; I can't catch anything more than a faint "sense" of a mundane scent these days.

4. various abilities, some cultivated, some not
I can look at an astrological chart and "know" a person in a flash.

I can look at handwriting and impressions come to me. As I am a writing teacher, that can be a problem when students turn in handwritten papers. When I read handwritten papers, I glaze out and impressions come in fast and furious. I can't stand it, as many students come from dysfunctional, unhappy backgrounds. The impressions affect my mood. To shut it out, all papers in my class must be written at the computer.

I do dream analysis. I can have a dream and interpret the symbols just as easily as if I'm reading. It took a long time for me to be able to do this. Years and years. It was very hard, too, at least in the beginning.

Tarot, too. The first time I did cards I had just started in a tarot class. A friend asked me to do a reading and I didn't really want to do it because I didn't think I knew enough about it. But because she kept asking, I said OK. She had a question about two guys she was dating and the spread (tarot tells a story) ended up with the two towers exploding. Sure enough, that's what happened with the two relationships. They both exploded and then she had no one. In the cards, I could see it was because she was playing one man against the other even though she had looked me straight in the face and told me she wasn't.

Sometimes I'll get into something like a "time warp" and synchronicities happen right and left. I almost feel like I'm in another dimension. It's thought provocative and amusing, to say the very least.

I have had instances where I've heard a voice but it isn't frequent. One was when I met my husband 17 years ago. I heard a voice say, "This is the one." I wasn't evenlooking for "the one," so that was a big surprise. Pleasant one, though. Oh, also prior to meeting him I had been cutting out pictures of men in magazines and newspapers who looked like him. I taped them all over my house. I don't know why I did this--I just did. Then when he came to my house and saw all these pictures of men who looked like him--well, he thought it was kind of interesting, LOL.

I could go on but I'll shut up and let someone else take the floor.

This is fun. Love to hear about other's abilities.

5. I have dreams
that come true. Once in high school I dreamed that we were going to have a pop quiz in history class and I could see the question. The next morning I walked into class-and there was the pop quiz I saw in my dreams, with all the questions that I saw. Needless to say, I did very well on that test!

I often have reoccuring dreams of places or people and years later it will hit me as I met new people or I'm in a "new" place, that I've "been there" before and that I already "know" these people--from my dreams.

When I met the great love-of-my-life, I shook his hand and I swear that electricity shot through my body. I've never had that experience again but I knew the second that we touched that we were going to have an intense relationship (and we did-sadly though, not one that ultimately survived).

I'll often have feelings that something is going to happen, usually something not good, with loved ones, or I'll have them on my mind a lot or dream about them for no particular reason, and them something does happen to that particular person, an illness, death, etc.

My family has always been very "open" to these experiences and the women in my family seem to be particularly "gifted" when it comes to psychic flashes, visions, impulses, whatever you want to call it. I wouldn't call it a real gift because it's not like I can see tomorrow's lottery numbers or can do a damn thing to prevent what I see from happening, but I appreciate it, never the less. It's an interesting experience everytime it happens--when I'm reminded that I already "knew" what was about to happen.

6. Probably most of the DUers who love this Group are the DU Oddballs.....
Edited on Tue Feb-01-05 12:35 PM by DemExpat
:D:D:D

My gift is my finely tuned and very "loud" Intuition, which I have learned to listen to and enjoy, along with non-verbal communication with loved ones and animals, especially pets that live with me.

Also some pre-cognition with certain people - whenever I dream of a certain friend who I seldom see, I encounter her somewhere out in the city streets or parks the very next day - like clockwork.

Thinking of someone when the phone rings within 30 seconds or so of the thought - this happens a lot - often enough to seem like a pattern.

Interpreting dreams....

Just "knowing" certain things are TRUE....:D

Setting aside my ego to be there 100% with love for those I want to support and give myself to - this seems like a real gift too that I have developed more in this lifetime.

Here is to all DU oddball psychics!

19. Oh God!
All that stuff happens to me too!

Plus, I can meet people and instantly just "get" them--"read" them, however you want to term it. My first impressions of people are uncannily accurate. So accurate in fact that one boss used to make me sit in on job interviews so that I could give my take on the potential new hires. The two times she hired people either without me or without my "take" on them, it turned out to be complete disasters.

I could have written that, Shopaholic! In my former life in Corporate America, I was in HR and was asked on several occasions to sit in on interviews and/or go to lunch with possible hires. They called it my "sneaky eye" test. As a rule I can read people immediately.

9. A few things....
Highly intuitive and just "know" things before there is any rational proof (I am almost always right.) I am just beginning to become aware of the fact that what seems obvious to me completely does not register with most other people. I can read people without knowing anything about them. On some level, I think people know this because people who are really phony or have something to hide take an instant dislike to me (energy wars or something). It's like they know that I "know".

I have had precognitive dreams that have come true and also pre-cog "hits" while I am awake - even details are exactly the same. It's very strange. I have had a few deja vu's where I feel like I am acting out a script that I already know.

I can smell a presence in a room that isn't there (have even asked other people if they smell anything and they don't, whereas the scent was usually very strong to me, usually perfume that smells kind of "grandmotherly" or old fashioned.) The scent comes and goes and is always the same exact one.

I often have trouble discerning what is "reality" and what is "my reality" and I sometimes act on what I pick up energetically when there is nothing going on in "objective" reality.

I am not very good at meditating - my mind seems too pourous or something. I have no control over it, but would like to be able to still my mind as I think I would pick up on a lot more.

10. My 23 year old daughter has very strong fleeting olfactory senses
of people who have died in our family....whether their perfume or body scents, or laundry soap they used....or simply the way their house smelled...:silly:

She also senses a presence in her room at night which does not frighten her, but makes her very aware of it. She wonders if it is not her Grandma, my Mom, who died in 1995.

12. It's very interesting, I wonder if there is any way to find out who
and what it is? Have there ever been any studies done on this? It seems as though the sense of smell is most strongly connected with otherworldly experiences.

I am very curious as to why I smell these things - are they dead relatives or someone who died in the house/apartment I am in at the time? I am generally not threatened by it, but I feel like I want to know more about it without getting completely freaked out.

28. You totally described what happens to me with some people--
"energy wars" is an apt term. It's amazing how many people I've known who didn't like me, for no reason that I could see, and looking back, I realize that it's because I "knew" them and "got" them or could "read" them or whatever you want to call it-from the first time we met. On some level, they knew that I knew and that's why they hated me! It's somewhat exhausting actually. Also like you, I'm lousy at meditation or yoga or any of that stuff. Too much noise in my head I guess!

31. Also, do you notice that genuine people and kind people
seem to gravitate toward you? It seems to work both ways. I think there is a lot more to human communication than what we percieve with the five senses.

I used to just wonder why certain people would be so hostile without provocation, but now I am aware of the fact that EVERY single person who is like that living a huge lie in some way. They know you are on to them.

11. I have very good intuition
see or hear from people after thinking of them. Often have dreams that 'come true'.

Have had memories of past lifetimes...5 that I am certain of. (Those are my favorite 'happenings', for some reason). Sort of inspires the good feelings that occur with recalling childhood memories.

And, I can often tell when I meet someone that I have been with them before in another time. :9 This can sometimes be a bit distracting as I want to tell the person about our past life together. But, I don't dare because often times I don't know them well enough!

Seven years ago I was very sick and at that time I had visits from family members who had died. They were all coming thru to help me. Sometimes they were there as a group 'examining' me from above- sort of the way people describe encounters with entities from UFOs. It was very interesting because some of them I knew only briefly as a young child. It was all enormously comforting.

Anyway that's it for me! This is a great thread!

Kinda, makes me want to read "The Celestine Prophecy" again!!

13. Funny...they never seemed "odd" to me ....LOL
and I never really sat down & really thought about them as seperate areas.....hmmm....

As a little kid I "saw" people...my Mom chalked it up to imaginary playmates ( her way of coping I guess)...I always remembered living other places & times...had feelings from the time I was tiny of being an adult before.....( have a "bullet hole" mark in my arm that I had from birth that I feel is from more than one past life.....no proof of course but it came out during a regression...in fact I got a whole story!!)

Could aways communicate with animals....guess I was pretty open as a kid to other energies/beings.....I think over the years I have learned to shield myself lot more.....

Have had some pretty interesting examples of precognition awake & through dreams.....

I am not great at "reading" a natal chart but it's like it opens a door & I just "get" this knowledge/information about a person.....

I don't "see" auras the way many do but when I draw the person I end up putting the colors down on the papaer or canvas.....

Lots of synchronicity with friends & family....

I often get the smell thing a lot, too...great way to trigger past (other) lifetimes for me...also as a teen when we would do the ouija board or table tipping, I would always get the scent of roses or jasmine...used to freak some of my friends out if they'd get a whiff.

Just lots of times of knowing stuff and like LWolf, seeing through bs.....

I think its all such a part of me anymore that I don't even think about it....I did move away from my small town about 10 years ago in order to be able to just "be me", so I can let it all out where I live now...in fact in my town I am considered one of the more "normal" ones

Interesting thread :) :hi: everyone :loveya:

Edited on Tue Feb-01-05 08:45 PM by cliss
My ESP told me there was something afoot with this thread when I was debating "To click or not to click". Just kidding.

I don't feel I have any particular abilities. Other than my own curiosity about metaphysical subjects. There are so many people with awesome skills at astrology, palm reading, tarot, psychic abilities, intuitition, ESP, being able to "see" into the future, etc.

I'm just very impressed by them. And of course, there will always be "hijackers", or little plagiarists who will hang on for the ride and pretend they really have these skills, or they have some limited gifts and they exaggerate the rest.

But I still keep an open mind and I'm usually greatly rewarded. So my "skill" is an open mind, willing to consider the possibility of someone having a particular gift or message to us, tenacity (I like to dig, do a lot of research), and curiosity about these matters.

Like so many people here, I'm particularly interested in the future. Or the near future. I'm very interested in what people have to say about that. Intuition, dreams, ESP, astrology, all is interesting to me.

The only thing that stands out was a deja vu experience that I had, about 8 months ago. I had a dream about being on an escalator. It was a very clear and realistic dream. We were riding down on an escalator, with white walls on both sides.

There were several levels of escalators (I think 3 levels)....I thought that was very strange. In other words, people going down, going up, it was quite busy. But I had no idea where I was......just going down with people going in different directions.

A few weeks later, I flew with my kids back to Sweden. This was a sentimental journey; I'd been wanting to go for about 20 years....could never make it. (lots of tears)

Then, at long last, we were able to go. We had to stop in London. We had to take commuter trains from Heathrow airport to Stansted airport. I've never been there before. When we were in London, we had to switch subway trains to go to Stansted airport.

We had to go down several levels to the Blue Line which would take us there. Suddenly, as if struck by lightning, I was in my dream!!! I looked around, and saw white walls on both sides. There were people coming down on the escalator, and people going up.

What a surprise. Just as I had dreamed. I think my subconscious was trying to tell me, "dont' worry! You're about to get your wish, Cliss". Really a nice gift from the Gods.

16. Michael... you are too funny!!!
They don't call you SHARP for nothing! Short and to the point! *wink

GREAT THREAD! Just watched Sand & Fog...movie! DEPRESSINGLY HAUNTING!

Talents, special abilities...hermmmmm

Very interested in astrology, tarot, psychic readings, just about anything that has to do with linking to Spirit!!

I've had deja vu times when I'm doing something and it's like a repeat that I've already experienced or dreamed.

I've had VERY vivid dreams...some frightening, some not. Some I can still tell with a lot of detail! I've been told to journal my dreams, but it takes me like 2-3 hours to journal a night's dreams because of all the detail and happenings, sooooo I dun do it. It seems like such a waste of time to me to spend ALL that time writing down dreams when I could be doing something.

I think of people a lot and then see or talk to them. My mom and I are good at this. Also, my best friend.

A very interesting story with meeting my husband. I was told I would one day find a grey feather and it would have great significance to me. So, I spent all this time looking for a grey feather or thinking I would find one somewhere which would demarcate(sp?) a memorable experience for me. Well, was I ever wrong! I found a grey feather whose nickname as a college teacher (as a joke because of his skin color, etc.) was Grey Feather!! :+

Somehow I just know that people come into my life or me into theirs for a reason. Some short (most), some long and I look for ways to meet needs and bring joy, encouragement, love into their lives to the best of my ability. True acceptance w/o condition.

I love to write and use to when I would take the time to let me heart take over I could write for hours w/o end stories, poems that would just seem to flow through me.

I have no special talents, but I would love to be able to find a way to live day to day helping others or giving insight through art, readings, astrology whatever... some Spiritual way of making it in this existence while helping/nurturing/loving others and it not be dependent upon what most see as current reality.

Thanks for sharing everyone! :grouphug:

25. the value of time spent with dreams
It seems like such a waste of time to me to spend ALL that time writing down dreams when I could be doing something.

Now that's acculturation. And this comes from one of the most hyperactive "doers" you'll ever meet.

Time spent with dreams might be the best way you'll ever invest your time. Our culture does not encourage us to spend any time with the subconscious and there is a whole part of us that is, therefore, virtually unknown.

I also think this is why our country is so messed up.

We think we go to "sleep" at night. I say no. I say that what we do is give free expression to our subconscious. Oh yes, I know--I know without a doubt--that during the night our souls and our spirits do travel and meet with others.

The only way of knowing this other half of our lives is to understand our dreams (or to meditate).

Dream analysis and meditation enhances psychic abilities.

The key is to think of your scope as more than just the conscious.

Time spent with dreams has great value. It is a way of expanding your consciousness.

18. I can't claim any special abilities.
Edited on Wed Feb-02-05 12:30 AM by davsand
I work with images a lot. I am very visually oriented and always have been. I "see" things. I can't explain it any better than that. I see things out of the corner of my eye or I see things in dreams. Even when I work with tarot it is the visual aspects that strike me.

The strongest panic I have ever suffered was when I was in the ER and they put temporary patches on both eyes. Literally, they heard me screaming out in the waiting room.

I have a sixth sense of people. I literally will get a feeling along the back of my neck like the short hairs are standing up--just like they do on a dog's neck sometimes. I learned a long time ago never to ignore those feelings, and I am convinced that learning to heed them has probably saved me from harm on more than one occasion.

I am convinced that life does not ease (on edit: this should read cease not ease.) when we depart this mortal coil, and I feel I was given a huge gift of love in that knowledge. If I have any possible way to pass that gift of love on to my child--my daughter-- I hope to do it.

I'm carrying no special abilities--just some strange experiences and some faith.

20. You brought something up which I feel might be a large part
of why I am here and that is to ease the way to the other side for those close to me. I was there was my grandmother who was afraid she was going to hell. She saw snow. I told her she was loved and forgiven and that God would never do that to her no matter what anyone told her! I told her she was free to step over to her new life whenever she was ready that love would be waiting for her and when she saw the light to hold on and go for it!

My parents are getting older and my husband's mom. I see my dad finally softening up and he even called me he and mom's cornerstone which shocked the living daylights out of me!

It seems for a lot of people that there is a lot of fear in dying/death even though they purport to be Christian, etc.

If I can make anyone's transition easier then that will make me very happy!!

Life is a dance... a spiral dance that never ends...only changes tunes! :+

22. I think faith is not limited to any one tradition.
Something I have noticed that is common to most spiritual paths, and that is the belief that "life" or spiritual being does not end when the physical body stops.

I agree that many people are carrying a fear of death--or passing on--and it is a sadness to me that it is this way.

I carried that same fear until I lost someone I loved. She was dear friend to me and she died unexpectedly. To say I was grief stricken would be an understatement.

I mentioned before that I am a seer. In this case, it was in the form of a dream where my friend came to me. She sat and talked to me--and explained that I should quit mourning her passing--that she was content and all was well. She went on to say that she knew I'd loved her a great deal, and that she had come back out of love for me. She wanted to give me the gift of knowing that life continues.

I woke from that dream with a lightness of spirit and a conviction that my friend had been there. That feeling has never left me and she has been dead now for almost 13 years...

I share that story with people that I think will accept it for what it is--a cherished life lesson and a gift of love. One of my main reasons for being at DU is that I feel comfortable that I can tell that story here.

23. Davsand,
I think you're right, most who post here are into "new age" thought and do believe in an "afterlife".

I think it's not the fear of there not being an afterlife as much as not wanting to be there for the death.

It's an old punchline " I'm not afraid of dying, I just don't want to be there when it happens".

29. hi tlc...so glad you have time to post
:hi::hug::loveya: You are so special dear lady!!! and many talented as well!!:)

Today is the 3rd anniversary of my Mom's death...I was with her when she crossed...she was ready and wasn't afraid .... it was a most incredible experience. Every eve so far on her anniversary, I get these "poems". If I have time I will share some.

My Mom & I were very close...still are....but I told her she didn't have to hang around so much that I knew she had things to do & places to go after she left her tired worn body behind.....I think after this much time it is getting a little easier, but I will always miss being able to pick up the phone & just share something with her in that physical earth 3D kinda way, you know?

You are so right life is a dance and sometimes I like the rhythm & beat better thab other times  ...but when you really think about it, its always exciting,

is where you see reality. If you look straight on it is the illusion you are seeing.

Here's to the continuation of seeing out of the corner of your eye into the spirit!!

24. dreams, premonitions, stuff like that--but only when
I am very spiritually in tune, grounded I suppose.

I still have precognitive dreams (sadly). I say sadly because they still frighten me. I know when people that we know or are close to are going to die, and when someone is pregnant. I don't always know who is going to die or who is expecting--but I know when someone close to us is.

During a time in my life that I was practicing Buddhism and chanting A LOT, I would just KNOW things. A person that something negative was going to happen to would weigh heavy on my consciousness and I would become obsessed with them. Not in the stalker sense (lol) but in the sense of just needing to talk to them, know where they were, wanting to keep them with me. This was years ago,and I still think it was weird.

Then at another point, where I was also in prayer a great deal I would hear things at night while I was trying to sleep--like a whispering. It was only audible to me, but it was LOUD and really bothersome. It would frequently keep me from sleeping. Sometimes I would just say aloud, 'please, I need to sleep...' and it would stop.

Freaky, huh?

I've always been very drawn to the study of astrology, magick, yoga, tarot and such things. I know that I need to study these things more. I'd like to develop what I do have more--it's just tough as sometimes in all sincerity it frightens me.

Bliss :)

26. I think this is awesome .. and I know that fear keeps me from
my true spiritual potential! From my understanding, we have the control over when, how often, etc. that these types of things you are describing happen NOT vice versa. I'm sure at first until we learn OUR boundaries, so we can function in both worlds that feeling like it is overwhelming or controling us is common.

Thanks for sharing..awesome!

61. Fearing our own power
This reminds me of a quotation, tlcandie-

"Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate.

OUR DEEPEST FEAR IS THAT WE ARE POWERFUL BEYOND MEASURE.

It is our light, not our darkness,
...... that most frightens us.

We ask ourselves, who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented, and fabulous?

Actually, who are you NOT to be?

YOU ARE A CHILD OF GOD.

Your playing small doesn't serve the world.

There's nothing enlightened about shrinking so that other people won't feel insecure around you.

WE WERE BORN TO MAKE MANIFEST
......THE GLORY OF GOD THAT IS WITHIN US.

It's not just in some of us, it's in everyone.
And as we let our own light shine,
......we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same.

AS WE ARE LIBERATED FROM OUR OWN FEARS,
......OUR PRESENCE AUTOMATICALLY LIBERATES OTHERS".

Credits: from Marianne Williamson's "A Return to Love", Chapter 7 (Work), Section 3 (Personal Power) as quoted by Nelson Mandela in his "1994 Inaugural Speech".

63. Thank you for this!!!!
It is wonderful and sooooo true :+ All of it hit the nail on the head and this part really touched me..

"There's nothing enlightened about shrinking so that other people won't feel insecure around you."

I can see that NOW! I don't like taking center stage or feeling that I've upstaged someone, etc., so I tend to try to stand back some so others feel included and not left out.

I need to rethink this....not saying to NOT be compassionate or considerate and think of others, but as I am, so I am telling others to be....and if I'm not letting ALL of my light shine then that is NOT right!!

 :loveya:

Thank you soooo very much!!!

65. When thoughts of others impose on your consciousness
it's because they can use your prayers.

And one of the MOST effective prayers I've ever seen or heard of or used is merely to place people in the loving hands of whatever deity(ies) you choose, and then release them from your consciousness. Rinse and repeat as necessary.

Or, who knows? There could be some other reason they keep coming to mind -- perhaps you should call them. Perhaps there's some other tangible action you should take. Etc. ASK. Ask your Guides, your deity(ies), the Universe, your Higher Self, what/whoever for the specific information or guidance you need to fulfill your responsibility for this person.

30. Okay, lets see
I'm pretty intuitive. Sometimes I just "know" something. How I know it is a mystery. There is like an audible click in my head when this knowing happens. It's pretty random, and I can't really control it. When it happens, it is always, and I do mean always, right on the money. Also, I'm an excellent judge of character.
I know astrology pretty well too. Although everything I know I've taught myself over the past 8 years.
That's about all I can think of. :)

37. I get that audible click sometimes, too
Other times it's more subtle. I know but I don't realize I know. I'm just operating from a different "knowledge base" and that's when I realize I know.

Does that make any sense? Or do I sound like Donald Rumsfeld?

because as we know, there are known knowns; there are things we know we know. We also know there are known unknowns; that is to say we know there are some things we do not know. But there are also unknown unknowns -- the ones we don't know we don't know."

34. Special Oddballs or Oddball Specialties ;-)
The reason I clicked is so I could see what abilities others have, looking for reassurance mostly because I have felt so 'abby-normal' much of my 45 years. I read this forum everyday and it has helped me feel less strange about myself and even though I'm not well read nor an expert, not even close, on many of the in depth intricacies of subjects like Astrology or Tarot, etc., I know there's something valid and real to it.

So I will attempt to share a few things about me and perhaps with guidance some books could be recommended:-) Most books I tried reading years and years ago just seemed so hokey to me, like they were written with only a $ in mind and little to do with expanding skills, sight/insight or experience with 'spirit helpers', the spirit world or awareness and guidance. All the ooga booga stuff people are fearfully-fascinated with, but no substance. Or they were so advanced it was beyond my ability to wrap my brain around it.
Well here goes......

Ghosts/spirit world: I have never seen one but I can feel them.
(note: just now an engulfing like pressure(?), vibrating ringing-like sense(?) rushed right through me top to bottom. It felt like something was trying to distract me from writing this. Not an unfamiliar feeling.) Anyway where was I.......Ghosts,
My father who was killed when I was 13 months old has been and still is around. I am absolutely convinced that it was he that saved my life on a few occasions, mostly when I was a teen and twenty-something. He makes his presences known, the strongest times are from about mid-Oct and then starts to fade about mid-Jan. He died Nov. 2, 1960. He intensely visits my mother every year and she does see him, smells him, hears him but it truly terrifies her. I want to see him too but I can't and don't know why. Don't know if it's 'me' or 'him' preventing it. I've had many other ghost experiences aside from my father.

Smells: WOW! I had forgotten all about that until it was mentioned here. That use to happen to me all the time when I was a kid but not so much as an adult. Astral plaining (spelling ?) was also a common occurrence when I was younger. I miss the almost nightly flying dreams I use to have. I interpret my own dreams fairly accurately but I'm uncomfortable in interpreting others.

But the one thing that is strongest or seems to come naturally for me, and something I've never consciously tried to hone is the ability to hear someone without a word coming out of their mouth. It just happens:shrug: Many times I have freaked myself out when this happens not to mention the other person. Basically this is how it goes....

Someone, it can be anyone, will say something or ask a question and I in return will answer them back. Typical back and forth conversing, right? (When I see "that look" :wow: on their face then I know I've done it again). After they're done putting their eyes back in their head and picking their jaw up off the floor, they'll look intensely at me and tell me they hadn't uttered a word yet and just how in the hell did I know what they were going to say before they ever said it. I never know what to tell them.
But to me I swear I heard it just exactly, as audibly, as clear, as loud, just the same as if they did say it out loud.

So what do you call that? That, more than anything has puzzled me all my life. My mom and I have done this freely and easily ever since I can remember. Mom would say to me (she still does), 'Robin, you're thinking out loud again, I can hear you', when I hadn't spoken a word. Try getting away with stuff when you're a teenager when your mom can hear your thoughts. Ya can't x( She also knew I was pregnant with my son before I knew I was pregnant and we lived more than a thousand miles apart at the time.

It wasn't until I got into elementary school and I saw the shocked expressions on teachers and other kids faces and I clearly got their message, that I was not normal and there was something was wrong with me. After that I made a conscious effort to watch for and make sure I saw a mouth moving before I dare answer or say anything. Kids can be so mean sometimes :-(

Sorry to ramble so much.

35. Ooga booga!
I thought I was the only one that used that expression in a conversation! LOL! You sound way fascinating!

You wanna know what I think (if you don't, well stop reading...:)), I think you are a telepath! You seem to be a true telepath, meaning ideas can go to and from you. I am less telepathic, as I can make people hear what I am thinking, but can't hear others. I think it is because I am a stubborn little guy. I make people hear me when I am very angry or I am directing something toward that person. This ability works great on liars! They blurt out an excuse, then realize I never said a word! You seem to be able to hear others and that shows you are open, but that can also work against you because you may hear or get some unpleasantness.

As for the spooks, they know you are a telepath! They are trying to get you to hear them. Who knows, you may be a medium in the works!

Suggested readings...look for books on telepathy, scan them, and pick the parts that jump out at you! Don't worry about the technical mumbo-jumbo. You may also want to see if you can "hear" books. Go to the store and thumb around and see what appeals to you, pick it up, look thru it and see what it has to say. Of course the past paragraph is just my suggestions, others may have a clearer reading list!

Brightest Blessings!

40. Telepathy? Mmm
Thanks Behind the Aegis. But of COURSE I wanna know what you think, others too. I've seen a vast amount of awareness and experience in this forum, far greater than my own, and I understand many of the things discussed here without understanding or knowing why I do, if that makes any sense at all. It's like I know what's going on the other side of the wall because I can see it through that wall but I can't get past it or over it to reach the other side. Darn those blasted barriers anyway x(

Having read this forum for a while it's probably more likely than not that I've seen ooga booga used here, probably reading your posts;-) and for lack of a better term unconsciously used it. heh It is a great expression.

I've not ever had any control over hearing thoughts (excluding my mother, with her it's a natural, comfortable flow/feeling), however I've reached a place where I'm ready to accept, open up to it, learn to trust myself with it and most importantly embrace this part of me, and yes you're correct it has been unpleasant at times and yet it does have it's advantages. I've spent more years than not suppressing it and denying it not only because of the ridicule and the kids avoiding 'the weirdo' but all those messages our wonderful:eyes: society puts out that it's simply not possible and anyone who claims these abilities is a crack pot. But it's always been there under the surface waiting to burst forth when my guard is down, usually at a most inopportune moment that takes me by surprise as much as the other person.

Now I can't wait to get to the book store now that I have some idea of which direction to go. Hear books? That hadn't occurred to me yet I know what you mean, wow interesting.
Ya know it's funny, I've heard of telepathy, I know what it is, but never gave it a thought that it might somehow ever apply to me.

*sniff* I can't express what exactly it is I'm feeling at the moment except to say that I feel lighter, better-better and better. How can I Thank You BtA. It may seem like no big deal, writing a few words on a message board in reply to me, a stranger, but today for the first time in a long time I feel good and excited about this and my world feels less awkward and alone

Blessings to you Dearest One

You are so kewl!!! I'm so sorry that you've had such a hard time. May you be healed so that your fears melt into self-love so you can see your true worth as Spirit.

This is what is very important, IMO that you hear and that is you learn how to protect yourself immediately! Astral planing is something that, IF you are NOT protected, can cause a lot of problems. It concerns me that you felt 'hindered' to write here.

If others can help you on what to read or where to go to learn how to protect yourself when you get among other people, before you go to bed, etc., that is great! I will think upon this some more and share, later when I get home, how I protect myself...it's very simple really.

Again, :loveya: ... never forget just how special you as is all of creation!!

41. I look forward to hearing (a ha ha there's that word) more from you.
And wow how unselfish and thoughtful you are to reply when you have your own life to attend to. Thank You tlcandie I appreciate that.

My apprehension about sharing myself and experiences are the result of many years of conditioning and old tapes running in my head that's all, it has nothing to do with fearing all you wonderful and wise souls. Not sharing or exposing my innerself is how I avoided further ridicule and teasing growing up and old habits die hard as they say, so by ignoring and suppressing, not revealing, is how I protected myself from that. Also I'm sure it was some feeble attempt to pretend I was just as 'normal' as compared to those around me.

But lately it feels that there is something pushing me to explore, to ask, to learn, to find out.
It is time.

Don't fret too much about the astral planing stuff. I haven't consciously or regularly done that in years and years. Only once recently, a couple months ago matter of fact, did it happen quite unexpectedly and instead of having the good, freeing feelings I remember having when I was young, I felt terrified and it was difficult to pull myself back down, know what I mean? Or what 'it' means? I remember it use to feel so good, there was no fear and it was a heck of a lot of fun. I was probably one of the few kids that looked forward to bed time. Why is it so terrifying now? I don't know. And also when I was young I don't remember having a 'teather' like there was this last time. I don't understand what's going on there, so of course ANY suggestions on what the heck is going on there and protecting myself would be greatly appreciated.

Anyway I think that's the catalyst that's trying to reconnect me to the path I long ago got off of. The proverbial kick in the pants.

Thanks for all your hugs  and kind words tlcandie. They all came through warm and clear :pals:

43. Well, I'm home and exhausted....
Thanks for your reply! I still need to think a bit more because today was so hectic/busy that my mind has not had a chance to be quiet.

I'm glad to hear about the reason why you were hesitant. That is a relief! :+

My understanding with astral planing is there SHOULD be a tether! Maybe when you were a child that is not what you were doing :+ Maybe you were still in the other world and there was no need for astral planing.

I believe children are angels who, we as adults, train to forget their connection to their true being/spirit. Even their talk is angel talk and we should be trying to understand it NOT getting them to speak our language so fast. :+

I agree with NJCher! In fact, those who are disconnected from spirit and Mother Earth and all that is the TRUE reality are the ones who need adjustments NOT vice versa.

What you are feeling/experiencing is TRUTH. And what has been the veil between this reality and spirit is becoming thinner and thinner because of the vibrations and ascension of Mother Earth and all of creation.

What a blessing to come into this world such a free and knowing spirit! I wanted to express to all here what an honor it is to be a part of your sharing and a part of this circle of sharing, knowing and love even within this specific forum/du group.

When people share their hearts, it is a true honor... a sacred place.

From my experience/knowledge, all you need is to ground yourself with Mother Earth and work your way up through each chakra and connect with your Higher Self/God Consciousness and then loop that energy so that it flows through you. Once you've done that you push that energy out so that it is a bubble, if you will, or a sacred space/circle of energy of pure, brilliant white light protecting you from all that is not of benefit to your being. Someone even mentioned that I could see it as a mosquito netting that filters out the things my being does not need while letting in the things that are of benefit to me. At any time you can allow that to expand or tighten.

There are so many books that have been of benefit to me. I would also suggest michaelsharp.org. His book/pages/information is very straight forward and very timely and very on the mark. It has been interesting to see shadows of many books I've read within the pages of Michael's books, but put clearly and without fear or baggage. So, I guess what I am saying is that if I had only one author to refer you to, today, it would be Michael Sharp.

I came from a very right wing fundamentalist Christian background to where I am today and it's taken me many years, books, people, experiences to get to the place I am today.

I had extremely low self-esteem and I still have to work on this at times. I will be 49 the 29th (28th) of February. For me, the work has definitely been all up hill.

Often, I've wished/desired to have some of the precious gifts I've seen put forth within this thread/this forum, but then I must accept and trust that who/what/where I am is ME and it is how it is to be. May you find the true depth and love of your gifts and how they are meant to be used for the upliftment/ascension of creation and the peace that will come with that knowing.

We are at the edge of a shift in consciousness. Instead of the USA being at the forefront, we are at the tail-end. There are many other countries WAY ahead of us, such as Venezuela. They are getting it! About 50% of Americans get a lot of it, but not all of it. Unfortunately, the US is like a spoiled child throwing tantrums and causing damage every where it turns in rebellion not willing to hear/see/speak/present the truth and holding on to the past/ stubborness come hell or high water. Due to this, the people of the US may well be the country/people who experience the worst results from the changes upon us.

This shift causes pressure/anxiety/disconnectedness.... a lot of odd feelings. According to Michael, soon the veil will be totally removed and some people will not be able to cope with seeing the other side thinking they are insane or perhaps loosing total control of their minds, etc. :/

You are feeling the pressure, IMO, because pressure is being exerted for change. No longer will people be able to keep their heads in the sand and pretend nothing is wrong. Oh, there will be a few die-hards who will resist change at all costs...to their detriment.

It's interesting how many old relationships have begun breaking apart since 2000 and continue because the new world will no longer tolerate that energy.

Blessing, Light & Love to all ...

 :grouphug: :loveya:

Shirley McLaine's books come to mind to recommend. And/or The Celestine Prophecy, which someone mentioned upthread.

Best is to simply fimd a metaphysical bookstore, and go see what "falls into your hands," or insists on being taken home with you. :-)

I LOVED your description of hearing people when they weren't actually speaking. Too funny.

My husband and I have fairly decent ESP, and can pick up each others' thoughts sometimes, but it's not like I've "heard" him thinking things, nor vice versa.

Edited to add (after reading some of the other responses to you):

Astral planing -- do you mean astral TRAVEL? It's really quite natural and it's my understanding that you're doing it every night whether you're conscious of it or not. The "tether" that TLC mentions is the silver cord. You remain attached to it and it to your body and that's how you get back. This is literally your "lifeline" and while your body is lying nice and snug in its bed, you have no fear of not getting back -- just follow the silver cord or, more likely, a sudden jolt will SNAP you back into your body (soft landings are preferrable, but any landing will do, given its alternative).

The questions you have, the seeking you're being prompted to do, are your soul/Higher Self getting you into position for the rest of the work you came here to do. Follow your curiosity, follow your heart. The doors will open for you. And ASK for help and guidance. Your spirit guides (we all have them) can't do nearly as much to help you, since this is a Free WilL Universe, unless you specifically empower them by asking for help.

78. Thanks for the reading recommendations Dear Eloriel
I have to tell you that there are MANY DUer's that stand out for their various reasons and you are certainly one of those persons that has done that, at least for me. You are one of the "DOer's" for sure. OK now that I've embarrassed us enough ;-)

Astral planing or astral travel? I don't know the difference I guess. I thought they were pretty much the same thing. What I experienced a couple months back I was definitely attached to a cord. Normally the in the air stuff doesn't terrified me, like when flying or hovering in dreams, at least it never use to. To the contrary I love that feeling of freedom while soaring effortlessly (usually effortless sometimes it was a struggle to stay up) above the tree tops, swooping and diving like a bird. However I don't "remember" being attached to any tethers most of the time. At other times I do vaguely remember a tether of some sort but that was few and far between. Those were more of the "hovering" type dreams. It was difficult though not impossible but it's a struggle to move horizontally or up and down as freely as I like. More like being a kite on a string.

This last one though I was definitely feeling terrified. It felt like there was some force pulling me up, up, up and it took all my strength to pull myself back down that rope. I woke immediately and was exhausted. When I got up the following morning my hands were so sore I figured I was just clenching my hands in a fist in my sleep. Then I remember why......the rope.

And by "SNAP" back into your body do you mean those times when it feels like a sudden startling thud as if someone just dropped you on the mattress from about 10 feet up then you wake up and the bed still feels like it's bouncing? I hate that but I like it too:crazy: That still happens to me quite often but I don't recall any dream(s) upon awaking. I'm having trouble remembering any dreams. Right now dreams are coming in spurts, one or two clear and detailed ones and a few fuzzy strange ones then nuthin', 6 months or more without any hint of a dream.

I know I'm needing to relax and re-open up again. I'm too closed right now. I know it's there I've just blocked out and/or forgotten how. That's what's so great about kids, they haven't been conditioned with a bunch of crap and they're so open. I want that again.

I was told about Michael Sharps site and plan on getting his Book Of Life as soon as my car gets goin' again:-(. I started reading and re-reading the first three chapters from his website :bounce: Before I finished the first chapter I felt a sense of relief. Not sure why but if the first chapter can do that I think I oughtta just shut-up, quit asking myself why so much and read :-)

Thanks for your input and your help Eloriel :pals:

48. I'm just an oddball
But I love this forum. I totally love astrology, tarot, numerology... all that stuff. I find that my own "visions" are somewhat limited and only come infrequently and when I least expect them. As for those who have instant gut feelings upon meeting someone new... I wish! I am the proverbial "benefit of the doubt" person, the one who buys whatever someone is selling, so willing to accept people at face value. It's a curse, I tell you!

 :loveya: It's not a curse to be as a child and always see the best in people! :+

I tend to be this way as well, but it is a bit tempered. The tough part is not to become cynical. But I have learned that when I choose to give or do for someone it is because I feel that is what I am to do. Then I do it and let it go. The rest is their stuff. I always give or help w/o expecting anything in return. Even if I loan someone money, they do not know this, but I gave it to them; therefore, if I'm not repaid then there are no hard feelings. :+

Giving is life itself! Believing in people is so powerful! What a doll you are I bet to know and be around!

everybody, hippiegranny!

This is how I imagine Jesus being.

I start out open, but my intuition usually tells me in a split second whether I want to be more involved with that person or not. So it probably stems more from my weakness and sense of self-preservation than from any desire to dislike others...

49. Oddball here
I've been psychic my whole life. I know things about people just from touching them. I have prophetic dreams. I know when things are gonna happen. And I see Auras. I see spirits and I get messages. I also seem to have a real affinity for animal spirits as they are here all the time and more seem to come every day. Consequently I scare the crap out of people and they don't stay in my life too long. LOL

Even my family - if I call and say "I had a dream about you" they freak out.

I read Tarot sometimes But I really love Numerology.

I don't *fit* in society so I don't try anymore. I am what and who I am.

:+ I would be happy to consider you my friend and more! People are only afraid because it is the unknown and they are in fear which separates them from being able to experience the Light & Love of spirit.

Sometimes, people just don't want to know. :/ My best friend LOVES numerology, but she's taken to DesertRose's tarot deck like there's no tomorrow!

What exactly is society anyways?! Highly overrated, IMO! :+ Just be you and be happy and fitting in, well there's lotsa room to fit in with this crowd!!!

Maybe you've just not been around the 'receptive' people who are open to your precious gifts...it's high time you ask spirit to allow them to be drawn to you and vice versa!!

51. Ok, I will share
I began reading cards for people when I was a young teen. I stopped after a particularly accurate reading which had predicted some bad things for my best friend.
I practiced some witchcraft back in those days until I learned it was evil to make others do things. (I wanted a boy I liked to speak to me, and it worked).
I am also a sponge. I pick up on the feelings of others. When speaking with people I will adopt their mannerisms, accents, and even speech impediments if they have any.
There are a few out there whom I have met and KNEW to stay clear
of them. When I don’t pay attention to my intuition, I pay for it.
(like my last marriage....grin)
I have astrally traveled a couple of times, not on purpose.
One experience was really traumatic. I went back to my body and
this dark thing clamped a hand over my nose and mouth so I could
not breathe. I tried to struggle and could not move. It terrified me!
The others were delightful and it was then I really realized that I am
not my body.
When I took Silva, we did this thing where we tried to connect to
someone who previously had written in that they had a problem.
I immediately saw myself as a man wearing a red and black checkered
jacket who had answered his door only to be hit over the back of the head with a board and then shot. The thing was, I FELT it, not just witnessed it in my mind’s eye.
The thing I would like to learn to do is to find missing children.
I cannot imagine how a parent can deal with the trauma of never knowing what happened to their child.
I have been in alot of emotional pain since my mother passed away in 1998. She was calling me everyday from the hospital saying they were trying to kill her. They succeeded in this by feeding her during her bout with pneumonia while wearing a breathing mask which the doctor had said NOT to do.
My guilt of not being able to save her and protect her have been eating me alive for the years since her passing.
My brother and I have not spoken since. I was the executrix
and he did not want her Will admitted. He wanted to wait to try to move her to another hospital. By the time he consented, she was too weak to move. He began divvying up her belongings before she was even gone and he makes mega bucks anyway. Well, at least 5x as much as I do. Once he got his dough, that was it. Plus I blame him partly for her death. I think he just wanted the money.
I need to let this go, but am unable....STILL.
Currently, I find myself so stressed out at what * is doing to the
world that it is hard to focus on anything else. I feel the pain he is causing to millions of people and it is making me crazy.
I keep an eye on this group as I try to re-focus my energy on something more positive. I just would like to make a contribution to people so I can make a positive difference.
The people here are a breath of fresh air and bless you all for your contributions to this group.

54. Digit... how awesome is all of this?!?!?
What a calling....have you thought of contacting psychics who currently help the police, etc. in finding lost/missing children?

Guilt...I would encourage you to read some of Michael Sharp's work and read how guilt keeps us separated from our true selves/truth/love and peace. It isn't meant that you should allow this guilt to continue to keep a strangle-hold on your heart/life/spirit. I encourage you to find a sacred way to honor your mother in a ceremony/ritual that will once and for all let her AND your guilt go, so that you can both live full, joyous, and peaceful lives...the life that spirit intended for both of you. This even involves your brother, as well.

Letting go might unlock the door to your future in helping to find those lost souls. One never knows what is just around the next corner when we are able to operate in total, unconditional love.

Light, Love, Blessings, encouragement and healing that passes all understanding to all within your sphere so that each of you may fully step into your true spiritual path/state of being within the consciousness of the Creator.

55. I knew I was drawn to include the stuff about my mother for a reason.
Regarding my mother: I also saw the thread about a ceremony with a candle and picture. I thought it would be a good thing to do. I just wish I could stop hearing her in my memory banks saying what she said. I wonder if visiting a psychic might help. If I heard she was fine and knew it was her...maybe I could rest this guilt.
I did comply with her wishes and sold her "stuff" for prices she requested or better. Funny how they tell you things like this when they are dying. This involved a bedroom set she bought at a yardsale for $350. She told me while she was still able to speak that she wanted me to get $1,000 for it. I sold it for $1,500, just to be able to honor her request plus some more...just to make her proud.
Regarding helping to find lost children: I would like to practice on some cases since wanting to help and being able to help might be two different things. I will say it has been my intention to be able to help for over 20 years. My heart aches for these parents and I can think of no greater gift than to be able to do this.
I don't know if I even have the ability, but to be able to do this would be a dream come true.
I will try to read some of Michael's work. Right now, money is tight. This is Bushworld, and times are tough.

56. There is much on his site that is free...
so, at least go there and visit. I'm sure you will find some great stuff! :+

My rituals usually involve writing a letter with my heart's feelings on it... lighting a candle... reading the letter to the candle (person) then allowing it to burn in the flame once I've released them and asked for release from guilt/expectations/wrong thoughts and ask for peace and love to fill their heart and mine. Pictures are great, too! Of course, there are no set ways...do what feels right to you!

Ask Spirit to relieve you from the memory tapes that keep playing her your head and ask it to be replaced with? what do you want it to be replaced with? :+ I always then leave the window open with what you want with a little note to spirit that says or whatever you deem is better for me or in my best interest!

If your heart is to help these children, then research it out and get into contact... find out what you need to do! Ask spirit to guide you and open the doors for you IF this is your calling.

Love yourself, belive in yourself and rest in peace...

68. When you are pursuing your path
money is not an issue. Or, pehraps more accurately, to the extent that it is, the way is made clear. Might take a little creativity or work or whatever, but it is never a total impediment.

IOW: just do the next thing that occurs to you. If you reach an obstacle or a brick wall, back up and go a different direction. Just the next step... that's all you need to do. Well, that plus be optimistic and positive about KNOWING that you can succeed at this dream of yours.

Your story to me is one of standing at the crossroads of holding onto the consuming guilt around your Mom's death and fear of the powerful, and the road to trusting in your high sense of intuition and love for all humanity.

Now is the time to learn to focus on the road that you WANT to take.
We all need to let go of the stuff that crushes us down!

I get comfort and support sometimes from affirmations like those of Louise Hay....I bought this book for my daughter for Christmas:

http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/1401902197/qid=1107511199/sr=1-3/ref=sr_1_3/104-1989931-1251918?v=glance&s=books

If you join Michael Sharp's site you can purchase his books as downloads for a small contribution.
I highly recommend his "Book of life" and "Dossier of the Ascension" to give great perspective to your life and to your struggles.

62. Dear Digit.....what a story....
I just want to share a few things here about your Mom...how sad. I know how easy it is to pile guilt upon ourselves (I was really good at it for a long time)...

Please know that your Mom knows that you did everything you could have for her at the time.....if you could have done more - you simply WOULD have... and she knows that...also things play out as they need to...it was simply put, HER experience...most likely it was part of her soul contract. Perhaps she knew that somewhere that this fatal error was going to happen (was she psychic/empathic, too?) which is why she said what she did to you....

My strongest sense is that she is very proud of you and loves you absolutely and unconditionally and in no way holds you responsible for her passing...she hopes you will be able to let go of the guilt. "Don't blame yourself" in other words.

As for your brother...I went through a similar bad time with my sister over my Moms will...it was not an easy time right after her death.....just try to stay focused on the connection you & your Mom had. (My sister & I have moved past it pretty much) Death is not such a big deal...not the final goodbye, certainly....she is still watching over you :loveya: (...its funny, I can sense this for others but I think it is hard for us when it is our own loved one.)

I too would suggest reading Michael Sharp's writings...talk about perspective! :)

I am sure you will make many many contributions (and already have made plenty, no doubt!)...but the main thing is to make sure you are safe & clear to do it...you are a very open individual and must take care of yourself too :)

Blessings & :hug::grouphug: dear Digit

I've had those. They are called "night terrors." If I recall correctly, it is your mind waking up before your body does. Your mind is awake and you want to move but you can't because everything else is asleep.

They are horrible! I can remember being traumatized by them, too.

I had them a lot more when I was younger. Can't recall having these for quite some time now.

69. Not necessarily
It's not at all impossible to have problems with discarnate entitites -- and that's what this sounds like to me. And everyone should be aware of that potentiality, and do what they can to protect themselves, etc. It's my understanding that it becomes more critical as the veil between the dimensions thins further.

I have had personal experience with loved ones who have come under the influence of discarnate entities -- it is NOT a pleasant experience at all. In fact, part of it was easily one of the worst experiences of my entire life. And that loved one's life had been seriously curtailed because of the influence, which lasted many years. Nothing to fool around with, and nothing to discount, IMO.

Of course, we ARE sovereign beings, so we can insist that we be left alone -- but we first have to understand that we have a problem and something of the nature of that problem, and then know what to do about it. Everyone should be passingly familiar with basic psychic protection, and practice it as well. Call it practicing Safe Psychic.

70. New Age Groupie, that's me
which makes it sound like I've been interested in one or more New Age personalities, but that's not the case. I've just been reading and studying New Age material since the early 1960s, and my mother and grandmother were both pretty knowledegable about occult things as well. I went to a few seances as a kid (teenager), and have seen psychics or other readers on and off throughout my entire life.

And studied a number of New Age and related subjects myself: astrology, herbs and other alternative medicine, addiction/recovery (not really New Age, but definitely Human Potential Movement), Feng Shui, Flower Essences and other Vibrational and Energy Moalities including Brain Gym, Emotional Freedom Technique, Touch for Health, kinesiology and dowsing, and so forth including a number of subjects that I developed keen interest and a bit of knowledge in, (Tarot, numerology, color therapy, etc.) but hardly anything approaching expertise or proficiency.

Happily, I finally reached a point where I stopped feeling like I needed to study anything more. Not that I think I "know it all," just that somehow my training is complete, and I haven't encountered any "new" things that I just have to learn for myself. I could always deepen my knowledge in my main subjects, but just haven't been pulled to study anything new for a lot of years now.

The part I value most in this world, aside from my mind itself, is my intuition. It has served me very well, even tho it's probably not nearly as well developed as that of several other posters in this thread. I trust it, especially when I'm sure I'm getting a good, solid read. I know that our intuition (in whatever form it takes) is our connecting link with our Higher Selves, and for that reason the most important part of us, leading the way and giving us the answers we need -- answers from WITHIN -- about what we should be doing with our lives as well as things to keep us safe and happy on a daily basis as well.

I also value it just as a contrarian: the subjective is SO undervalued in this culture, SOMEONE has to be its champion. ;-)

It has always been fascinating to me to see the increase in psychic intuition or awareness that occurs with me right after I have talked about such phenomenon with others.

It looks like we have quite a number of people with psychic abilities/talents here. I think it would be worthwhile to talk on a regular basis about how our abilities express themselves.

What do you think about a thread where we post about such messages, "other world" communications, synchronicities, etc.? Like a weekly or even eventually a daily thread?

As an example, see the "Synchronicity Sisters" thread. I posted a story on that one about pulling an envelope from a large stack of thousands of envelopes. I pulled out the one envelope that was addressed to me.

I don't know what an incident like that means, if anything. But it certainly is intriguing.

It is such a great idea to keep this going!!

It's so funny because I just decided to check back in here and see what everyone was up to. And, as I'm opening up the thread I'm saying to myself "Oh, I wish this one never had to end... It's such a good one"

Is that hilarious or what?!

Anyway, let's do it! Given the state of affairs we currently find ourselves in at this moment in time, it would be a wonderful way for us to keep ourselves attuned to a higher energy.

I know that for me, when things start to get sort of crazy, I tend to put my 'intuition' on the back burner. Just the opposite of where it should be!

82. Interesting thread. I feel that all of us have extrasensory
gifts, although some are certainly more gifted than others and some have developed their gifts more.

Have been interested lately in developing mine more. I do have precognitive dreams, always very different in character from "regular" dreams. They are in vivid color, with the colors so striking I remember them even years later. These dreams are always about the death of someone within a certain range of association to me -- though never someone extremely close, which I've come to believe is because of the strong emotional (self) attachment interfering with this second sight. Because of these dreams I know that things are predestined to happen within a range of 1-5 days in advance. I don't know about further because none of my precognitive dreams has extended further. Either that or time isn't what we think it is, something like Einstein's theory of relativity, it depends on where we are located, not physically but psychically.

As to waking psychic experiences, I'm like so many others in that I will know who is calling on the phone or when a letter will be in the mailbox and when the timing is right for some action. Heightened intuition.

I didn't know in advance about 9/11 yet I did have a compelling and terrifying time before it happened. In this case it wasn't from a dream but was my waking emotional life. I started to become more and more frightened beginning around the last week of Aug 2001. I'm not normally like that at all. I felt a pressing and increasing anxiety that grew day by day, as if it was a tangible thing all around me. By Sept 10, I was afraid to go out of my house. I called in sick for work on both Sept 10 and 11. So on the morning of the 11th I was at home watching television when it happened. Immediately that feeling vanished.

I guess what I'd like to do is develop this intuition more so that I would know more clearly what it was about. The feelings around 9/11 were translated as if it was an impending personal threat of some kind which was a misreading.

About a week before the tsunami, someone posted at DU asking if others felt anything disastrous was going to happen. At that time, I did. My feeling was that there would be some catastrophic physical damage that was going to take place. I guessed it might be a terrorist attack or some natural disaster. All I can remember about the feeling was that I felt a great urge to run away and a sense that I needed to get away fast, but I didn't know from what or where I was supposed to go.

It might be helpful, as suggested above, to talk about those feelings with others, to help learn to sort them out.

89. have you read about egg's?
I think that is the acronym -- they are these computer things all around the globe now that are supposedly "picking up" on impending disaster or sadness from the global consciousness. It all works on a deviation from a line. I thought it fascinating when I read it, but, of course, it can't pick up where or when something is going to happen. I guess there were swings before the tsunami, 9/11, and at Diana's death.
I don't really have prophetic dreams -- I used to be kind of psychic, but I asked for it to be taken away because it scared me. But shortly before the tsunami, I dreamed I was on a ship and a big wave came -- no storm, just a big wave. It turned the ship on its side, and it was scary because I was trying to hold on to hubby and we were sliding and sloshing around. We made it back to port safely where other ships had gathered. I interpreted the dream psychologically, symbolically, until the tsunami, and then I wondered if it was prescient. Last weekend, I had a nightmare about a vast economic collapse and I was literally gasping for air. That has so concerned me that I met with my financial adviser -- who just looked sort of pale when I told him. In the past, I have always been about 2 years off in my intuition about the market (which is of NO use) -- maybe that is why he got pale and quiet.

83. Oddball, or business as usual? I am very intuitive and have a neat gift.
Edited on Wed Feb-16-05 08:58 AM by OmmmSweetOmmm
I sell crystals and minerals on the Net, and will send little gifts to my customers. I have a knowing which ones to select, and receive lots of emails asking me, how did I know I wanted or needed that. :)

I have been clairaudient, have healing abilities, see auras of crystals and trees, precognitive dreams, occassional telepathy. I also have a bullsh*t detector built in, and can get a good sense of people the moment I meet them.

Many of my customers and some of my friends are very gifted, and I just look at it as the norm.

85. sleep paralysis--a possible answer for Digit
This is from Digit's post 51, above:

One experience was really traumatic. I went back to my body and
this dark thing clamped a hand over my nose and mouth so I could
not breathe. I tried to struggle and could not move. It terrified me!
The others were delightful and it was then I really realized that I am
not my body.

Someone just posted this link in The Lounge:

http://paranormal.about.com/library/weekly/aa112000a.htm

A few excerpts:

<snip>

I felt a very strong force holding me down. I could not sit up. I tried to scream for my daughter and could not get any noise to come out. I tried to hit the wall with my arm and this force would not let me. It again lasted about 30 seconds and was over. I really don't believe in ghosts and didn't see anything at all. I am just really scared and confused.

<snip>

The name of the phenomenon comes from the superstitious belief that a witch - or an old hag - sits or "rides" the chest of the victims, rendering them immobile. Although that explanation isn't taken very seriously nowadays, the perplexing and often very frightening nature of the phenomenon leads many people to believe that there are supernatural forces at work - ghosts or demons.

<snip>

The phenomenon occurs to both men and women of various ages and seems to happen to about 15 percent of the population at least once in a lifetime. It can occur while the victim is sleeping during the day or night, and it is a worldwide phenomenon that has been documented since ancient times.

<snip>

The medical establishment is quite aware of this phenomenon, but has a less sensational name than "old hag syndrome" for it. They call it "sleep paralysis" or SP (sometimes ISP for "isolated sleep paralysis").

<snip>

86. I have had that more than once.
That one time was a doozy.
What I did not say was that I had gone (in my dream or whatever) down to the door and there were two people who appeared dead. The eyes caved in with dark circles around them, etc.
I did not let them in.
Then the rest happened.
I have a picture of the home when we first purchased it and you can see a girl with a buster brown haircut looking out of the bedroom window where I slept. Nobody was in the house at the time. I have shown this photo to alot of people and they see the same thing.

Anyway, I no longer get sleep paralysis, thank goodness.
I used to walk in my sleep, too, which I have also grown out of.

On another weird note, I know of a woman who sleepwalks and will eat a jar of mayonaise, or whatever and not remember. Every single night, she will get up and eat something weird.
I thought I had it bad.....sheesh.

88. Digit, I can't believe you know someone who eats while
asleep.

I had a girlfriend that I worked with yrs ago who suddenly began to gain weight...lots of weight. I'm talking about 30-40 pounds in a couple of months... Anyway, she told me that she would get up in the middle of the night, totally unaware of what she was doing, and make full meals for herself- even using the stove, at times. She would have no knowledge of what she had done the next morning!!

87. I've experienced something similar
I usually meditate lying back on a recliner, and sometimes I fall asleep in that position at the end of the meditation. For awhile, when I would awaken from post-meditation sleep, I would be paralyzed and unable to move, sometimes for ten minutes or more. I never felt the fear that people report from sleep paralysis, probably because I thought it was just an odd state of consciousness that occurred from how I got there. I suspect that any feeling of fear from the paralysis itself would lead to some of the other related fears, and they would feed on themselves.

Anyway, one time when I lying there paralyzed, I noticed that I felt very much like I do when I get deep enough into hypnosis to have hypnotic paralysis, so I thought, "I wonder if I can count myself right out of this state the same way I count myself out of self-hypnosis." So I tried it and it worked; I came right out.

I frequently wonder if it would work to teach self-hypnosis to people who experience sleep paralysis and have them try to bring themselves out of the state whenever it occurs.

BTW, sleep paralysis probably serves a very useful function--it keeps you from acting out your dreams, which could be a serious problem.

90. I have read cards for 30 years, read palms and tea leaves a bit too but
my best divinations are with cards. I often have premonitions concerning family members and friends. I also frequently hear other people thinking, quite clearly, which is not always desirable, but is sometimes so much fun. I know when an old friend I haven't heard from in years will write or call, because, I will become focused on them just as they do...and I most often know who is on the phone before I answer it. I also hear animals thinking, and frequently receive very subtle communiques from persons who used to be close to me but are no longer alive. I have sometimes had premonitions that have saved my skin.

92. Sorry to chime in so late....
but I have wanted to respond and had to resolve technical issues first. (password and donation in that order!)

I've always been very sensitive to others' moods and energies. I get a "read" or intuition about a person when meeting them or especially when shaking hands. For the longest time, I used to try to ignore any negative impressions I got, since it seemed so "unfair." I've learned from experience and age that whilst still giving people a fair shake, I have to listen to my intuition as well, because it's usually right.

I started having dreams along with the ability to sense when something bad was about to happen to my family or close friends in my late 20s. There is a pervasive anxiety that has me upset and worried if anyone is late getting home, etc., until the "event" happens. Hard to describe the feeling, but there is a heaviness that just isn't usually there.

My precognitive dreams have a distinctly different flavor and are usually accompanied with some very clear messages, just a few words that almost "sound" spoken. I've gotten very afraid of these...I dreamed about my best friend's death, my grandmother's death, and most recently, my son's death. This was devastating, and now I am almost a lucid dreamer, trying to "run away" from dreams that may be trying to tell me something I don't want to know. Now that is strange, isn't it?

I've had many "visit" dreams from those who have passed over, and I fly a lot in my dreams which is apparently a sign of astral travel? Also, I have begun being sensitive when something big in the world is about to happen, which is scary because I can't usually seem to differentiate between feelings about family and world events before they actually happen. For example, I "knew" about Diana's death specifically, then before 9/11 I had the "feeling" as well as before the Tsunami, and although not Catholic, the Pope's death. The way I know is that the feeling subsides when the event happens.

Okay, so if I am not an oddball enough, I also am an astrologer. I love it and spend lots of time on it every week.

I've enjoyed reading about everyone else, so I wanted to join in with others like me. I really enjoy DU and love this group!

105. No, all the dreams I mentioned did come true...
my son was the most recent. He has been in spirit for a little more than a year and a half. When I had the dream, I tried to "correct" it, and tried to believe it wouldn't happen. However, the last time I saw him and talked to him I was getting messages to pay attention, what if this is the last time, etc. And, the day before he died, my watch stopped...lots more I could tell on all of this. The whole journey, while of course extremely painful, has been so full of spiritual experiences.

Thanks for listening!

107. I am so sorry, TTLG....
this does make the gift of being so sensitive to signs much more double-edged...demonstrating to us that there is much more, but making us fearful for more pre-cognitions of deaths of people we love.

Would you say that the spiritual journey has given you any peace about physical loss of loved ones?

My Dad's watch stopped at his death, which also to me was a powerful sign.

93. I seem to have a weird thing with some friends of mine.
Like my friend Michael. I've known him for years and years but we don't talk very often, maybe once every 4 or 5 months. I love him dearly and whenever we get together it's like no time has passed at all, but for some reason we both get caught up in day to day stuff and lose track. Anyway, for as long as I've known him, the same thing always happens. He will enter my mind for some reason (someone will remind me of him, I'll run across a gift he gave me, I'll see something that I know he would think was funny) and within a few hours he will email me or call me. It happens without fail, EVERY TIME. If I pick up the phone and call him as soon as I think of him, then he swears he was just thinking about me. It's like we have a psychic Bat Signal with each other.

I have this with a few friends and a few siblings, but it seems to be the strongest with Michael.

96. I honestly don't know WHAT I am. Odd - yes. But I was taught
to hide - at any cost - that which made me so very different from my family. I got tired of my grandma hitting me when I told her who was calling - just before the phone rang, so I didn't tell her anymore.
Now, we have caller ID, but my family is so used to me being accurate, they look at me before they check it. I FEEL it.

When a family member dies, or is hurt - I FEEL it - so strongly it can knock me down. When a beloved cousin died, I was driving with my family.I managed to get the car off the road, crying my eyes out. When they asked me what was wrong, I told them my cousin Don had just died.
They wrapped their arms around me, never questioning that I was right. When we got home, the message that he had died was on the answering machine. I had felt it THE MOMENT it happened.
When my husband was hit by a teen-age drunk driver - I fell to the ground the same moment he was struck. I knew in that moment that my life would be forever altered. It was.
I once pulled my eldest son's face out of a heater the instant his hair caught on fire. Odd thing was, until that moment, I was sound asleep.

I avoid touching people I don't know because I FEEL their energy, their anger, their fear, and I have sometimes found it extremely difficult to rid myself of their energy.

I was taught how to communicate with animals by my late feline Beloveds, Thunder and Lightning. This has been a wonderful blessing, but...now every animal I meet wants to either have a chat, or sit on my lap. I'm not kidding.

I can also read my husband's and sons' minds, but I don't think that counts all that much. Not when I can get my brother who's 2000 miles away to call simply by sending him a mental "message".

So, what am I? Besides being weird.

98. The 'avoid touching people' thing is a hard one, isn't it?
I have been like that since childhood, it's almost painful sometimes ... what you pick up!? Also had a woman tell me years ago (without any prompting) during a reading 'You don't touch people, it's because you were a nurse during the Civil War'. She said she could 'see' me on a battlefield, wounded men on the ground reaching up & grasping my legs & skirts - the feelings of futility & helplessness to aid them in a meaningful way. She said that the psychic pain from that had carried over, that I 'felt' people in that incarnation as well. That was one of those aha! moments - it felt true, & made me a little more accepting of that in myself.

Mostly, I've tried to wall off all the 'gifts' - they seem to attract the bad elements like a magnet.

101. Not weird. Not at all.
We all have gifts of one kind or another. Some of those gifts may simply be a mater of people who have learned how to use parts of the brain that the rest of the population doesn't.

Consider this, the study of the brain and how humans use it is really very young. Currently they have only really decisively IDd something less than 20% of our brain and its uses. The rest is still uncharted and an unknown. Many of your "gifts" (I put that in quotes because you seem to feel them not to be the assets they are!) may well be a case of you using parts of your brain that other people don't tap into.

I have to wonder if opposable thumbs met with a similar fear when they first began to spring up...

As for picking up icky or unsettling vibes from people you touch, I'd really suggest that you try learning to either ground that energy (visualize yourself as a tree with roots running all the way down into the earth. Send that energy they deposit on you down deep into the earth and let it rest there...) Or dissipate it by running water over your hands and visualize it washing that energy down the drain with the water.

You may want to try and find some techniques to guard against even picking up that energy. I know it can be blocked, however, I have not ever worked to do that.

Peace to you, and welcome to a forum where it is OK to "know" stuff you shouldn't ordinarily, and it is OK to be a bit different. As you can see by this thread alone--this a a group of people who are not gonna judge you.

102. Thank you, Laura, your kind words are like a soothing balm.
Having these gifts were exceedingly painful for me as a child, because of my UBER Fundamentalist family's condemnation of them, but I came to accept them as part of who and what I am a long time ago. I now am very blessed to have a family that totally accepts my "difference", and they love me just the way I am. The only thing my sons ever asked of me was to not answer questions before they asked - in front of their friends. It freaked them out.

I also saw spirits until I was five and specifically prayed to NOT see them, due to an incident that happened when I was five. After our Mother died, my brother and I were so devestated that we never left each other alone for a minute. We had different bedrooms, but one of us would sneak into the other's room so we could sleep together - in our childish minds, we thought it would protect the other from dying.

Then, one night a white light appeared, and our Mother appeared within the light. She was wearing her burial dress, her hands held out to us as she sobbed; "My babies, my babies...please don't cry". We both saw her and began crying and begging her to stay with us. Our cries woke our Grandma, who came into the room - and saw her too. She SCREAMED at our Mother to leave and became hysterical. She slapped both of us, told us what we had seen was nothing more than a SATANIC DEMON, and that we were to go to bed and not say another word - EVER about what had happened. The next day, and ever after - she swore NOTHING had happened, and that if we knew what was good for us - we would believe that too.

I was beyond devestated, because that meant that I could never speak of the three small children who had been with me since I was aware of my existence. They said I was their teacher from a past life, and that they loved me so much they had sworn they would never leave me. I spent many, many hours with them, teaching them everything I learned, and I loved them dearly. But, in my child's mind, I was afraid my Grandma would kill them, so I prayed for God to take away my ability to see them - or ANY spirit, while they cried. They disappeared as I prayed, and I have never seen a spirit again. Ever.

As I grew up and became an adult, I forgot all about those spirit companions, until one day I was made aware that they had returned to be WITH me. I was sitting on the floor with my three very young sons, reading them a story - playing all the parts of the characters. It was a rainy day, so they were stuck inside and bored, but suddenly the sun shone through the clouds, onto their faces. For one brief INSTANT, the faces of my childhood companions were superimposed over the faces of my sons. I felt a gentle touch on my left shoulder, and the scent of my Mother's perfume. It is my belief that my sons were those companions. Maybe I'm wrong, but that is how it FEELS to me.

For ridding myself of other people's energies, I first learned to "ritually" cleanse myself with either a bath or shower, but now I can USUALLY discern the difference after a few minutes. I then ask myself if these are my thoughts or those of someone else. If the answer is someone else's face appearing in my mind's eye, I simply state that I reject these thoughts as not being mine. I then put the thoughts into a shiny bubble and send them into the SUN to dissapate. I DON'T send them back to the other person, because they let the thought leave them anyway, and I just believe that they didn't want them. I don't want them either, so I send them to the Sun. I also have learned to dissipate them by placing my hands into the Earth while gardening, but when we have five month long winters, that isn't always practical.

I would like to learn more about grounding and blocking energies from others , this has been the most difficult for me, and has resulted in me being a semi-recluse. That's why I so love this group; the people here a like a vast Cosmic Library, overflowing with wisdom and knowledge and LOVE.

Thank you all for being who you are - you're the family I wish I'd had growing up!

103. How painful for you to go thru that as a kid.
I can't imagine being presented with that kind of emotional conflict at such a young age. It strikes me, however, that your Grandma tried really hard, in her own way, to do the best she could for you kids. If she REALLY did feel that any image appearing (like your Mom) was satanic in nature, she must have been terrified right along with you kids. Fear and grief makes us all do some funny stuff sometimes...

I have talked about myself on here before, so forgive me if you know this already. I am a "seer." Most of my abilities lie in being able to "see" or visualize things. It used to creep me out a LOT.

I Remember being scared to death of certain rooms in my parents house because I'd see people or figures there--who did NOT belong! Now, as an adult, I still see some of those same things--but the fear is less because I realize the difference between malevolent and benign. I remember telling my Mom what I'd seen and she'd just dismiss it as a child's' fantasy/dream.

I have a daughter now of my own. She's turning 8 in May. She shows signs of being similarly "gifted." She talks about the stuff she sees, and it is difficult for me to dismiss it or even calm her--because I realize how terrified she must be feeling.

One night I woke up to the sound of her screaming in her bedroom. I ran in there and all she could do was point to the wall and say, "He walked thru there." We talked about it for a while and it was painfully obvious to me that the poor kid had, in fact, seen something.

The only way I could explain it to her was that sometimes we see stuff that others don't. I told her it happens sometimes, and that she should always know that she shouldn't talk to anyone she doesn't know and to yell if she feels afraid. (I felt like we were on a playground rather than in he bedroom!) I do not want her to ever feel she is anything less than gifted with this ability, and treating it any other way just felt wrong to me.

I lost a good friend suddenly. I was devastated because I'd not said good bye, nor had I ever told he I loved her. She came to me and told me that she'd loved me too, and that she wanted me to have the gift of knowing that life does not cease when our bodies stop functioning. To this day, I still carry a feeling of peace as a result of that contact.

I was certain that I didn't want my kid to miss that kind of understanding when it is offered to her, and as a result, I chose to deal with her openly about the issue of seeing things and people.

Brightest blessings to you--I hope you find what you seek here at DU. This is a group of enormously talented people and if anyone has answers they'll be here!

104. I am so glad your daughter has you to teach her
how to deal with her gift! With your help, she will avoid many of the pitfalls that those without such a helper endure.

My Grandmother was a remarkable woman; I came to peace with her before she died. Her heart was true, I know that, and she did the best she could within the framework of her belief system, but I know I honestly scared the @#$%! out of her; more than once she stated that she thought I was the same spirit of her own Grandmother - the only known "witch" in her family. I don't know if I am, but it wouldn't surprise me, either.

I would like to know more about "grounding"; everything I learned, I learned througfh my own trial and error, and I have learned more from the wonderful people here. Do you think that is worth a thread of it's own?

Your story of your child has touched me deeply, right now, I am practically crying from the relief of knowing that your child will be able to truly grow WITH her gift, with the help of a loving, supportive parent. You are truly doubly blessed! We are given these gifts for a reason, it seems unnatural to make people renounce them.
Thank you for sharing your story - I think it has really helped me. Learning that I am not alone has been a blessing, indeed.
