Chalk one up for visualization
Edited on Sun Mar-18-07 09:17 PM by itsjustme
The University of Memphis Tigers (hometown team here) just made it into the Sweet Sixteen--along with two other teams from Tennessee--Vandy and UT. This is the first I had heard about the visualization but I certainly had heard complaints about the awful free throws.........wonder what Calipari has been reading or watching? He doesn't strike me as a visualization type person. Eventually people may realize that it actually works. Maybe this is part of the "shift."

The biggest surprise was that Memphis sealed the game with free throws.

The Tigers came in making only 61 percent — worst among all tournament teams and near the bottom of all 336 Division I schools. It was such a problem Calipari stopped having his team practice foul shots and told guys to visualize swishes instead. The gimmick obviously worked as Memphis went 26-of-34 from the line, a 76.4-percent success rate that was among the best of the season.

"One of the things we'll do tonight on the plane is all shoot 20 free throws with our eyes closed," Calipari said. "Hopefully we're up to making 16 or 17 of them."

2. There's something about free throws
I've heard for years about basketball players dramatically improving their free throw shooting after doing visualization. Maybe it's because it's an activity where they can stop and relax and get into a state of mind, or maybe it's easy to visualize because it's always the same action every time. Or something.

6. Yippee!! Chalk *two* up for visualization
Memphis just earned a place in the Elite Eight. So, guess what? One of the worst free throw shooters on the team was fouled and made BOTH free throws in the last three seconds, to win by ONE POINT. Sorry Aggie fans.

3. That reminds me
When I used to follow our local pro soccer league, I used to "help" them get some goals. Worked to help get my friend bowling strikes too--when we were teens she played in a league and I used to sit around waiting for her to finish her games on a Saturday afternoon.

So, like, is that unsportsmanlike conduct, giving your favorite team or competitor an edge from the stands?

4. Heck no!!
It's just you against whatever shaman the other team has!! Don't we all lean a little left and right when we watch a person putt a golf ball?

You must have a very active third eye.

5. Good point!
Who knows how many other folks are out there meddling on both sides? This isn't quiddich rules after all.

I think my third eye was in better shape when I was a teen--just after I saw Star Wars and decided The Force was real and we (BF the bowler and I) were going to start using it. (Simple as that!) I do more formal magick and reiki now but less changing of stoplights. I should get back to my roots.
