The Fire Valley
Hi everybody, I just got back from a week trip to Vegas. While there a co-worker good friend of mine and myself went to The Fire Valley on the Moapa reservation and its a wonderful place. Also we both agree to go back with other friends for star parties and Shamanic experience -- a grate place for both.

Here's the pics I took while there:

1. Hi Popol Vuh
Nice pix & sound...

for some reason though - maybe transfer bits are too heavy for my puter - the site kind of froze on me - sound is ok.

I had to check it out and I found this:

Prehistoric users of the Valley of Fire included the Ancient Pueblo Peoples, also known as the Anasazi who were farmers from the nearby fertile Moapa Valley. The span of approximate occupation has been dated from 300 B.C. to 1150 A.D. Their visits probably involved hunting, food gathering, and religious ceremonies, although scarcity of water would have limited the length of their stay. Fine examples of rock art left by these ancient peoples can be found at several sites within the park.

3. Thank you - you have put together a wonderful "slide presentation"
The photos remind me of a dream I had several years ago about horses running down red cliffs with green desert shrubs. Thanks!

4. The place looks amazing, and the music really worked...
with the slideshow.

I'm going to forward this on to my sister, who was just transferred to Las Vegas a few months ago. I know that she'd enjoy visiting The Fire Valley.

Thank you so much for sharing your memories with us! :)

23. Hi I Have A Dream
How you doing? I always enjoy your posts and its always good to see you.

Here's a couple of maps for your sister. I got them from the store next to the exit from I-15 to go into the valley of fire. I wish I would have gotten 'before' we went in because there's some things on the map I see we missed. lol.. :)

Anyway, again its always nice to see you and here's some maps for your sister.

5. Crashed my browser :(
Sorry to report, PV, that your site didn't work on Firefox. I'll try it on Safari and see how it goes. Hope it works--I really want to see it. :hi:

6. I had to restart my machine after viewing it in Firefox.
However, I was able to see the slideshow before it seemed to freeze my mouse.

7. Yeah, I didn't think it was my hard drive--got plenty of power
With my new laptop. Funny how much isn't compatible with Firefox, even now that it's so popular.

8. I've done web programming, and it's a real pain in the rear to handle...
different browsers. (At least it was when I was doing it a few years ago in Javascript.) Therefore, if someone wants to only cover most people, they'll not do the "special case" (but sometimes really popular) browsers like Firefox. Firefox is a great browser, so I'm sticking with it. When it doesn't work, then I go back to Safari, just as you did. Sometimes Safari isn't supported either. :(

That was awesome. Makes me feel a little better for not being able to take a trip out west this year. Do you have any more of these picture shows? Would love to see....My computer handled them fine, but I have a fast bandwidth and a fast processor.

25. Yes, I agree. Overall, I like Firefox better, but sometimes Safari's the way...
to go. I'm glad that we can have both available at the same time. :)

Thanks for the information.

21. I do have some video
While there I took all the stills and my friend shot a lot of video. When I get a copy of the video, I plan to make a couple of short videos and post them to youtube. When I get that done I'll be sure to post them here.

I am glad you like the photos..

12. Thanks everybody and if you had problems, I changed the code
Edited on Thu Jun-12-08 01:26 PM by Popol Vuh
Thanks everybody. I thought it was a very nice place to visit. Other friends agree to go and camp/star party. I also think its a grate place to have psychedelic experience.

Also, sorry for any problems loading the page. I made some code changes that might solve that problem. If you can, try it again and let me know if it works better now. I am afraid I am no code writer, but I know some basics....some very basics. :) I hope the changes I made work. :)

P.S. I use Mozilla Firefox with a cable modem connection and it loads fine for me. I hope my changes work.. :)

16. Shucks.... :(
I wish I knew more about code. I am thinking maybe this html code isn't good with a MAC. If there's anyone who's good at code, maybe they could view what I wrote and make suggestions.

Anyway, thanks for your response MorningGlow. Hopefully the friend in some of the photos I took will know what the problem is. He's a MAC person too and has lots more knowledge than I with code.

:hi:

Wow, great photos, PV! Made me feel like I was there. Fantastic earth spirits evident there--plus I really liked the vertical light artifacts in a couple of the photos. Hee.

Sigh--I just LOVE the Southwest. Thanks so much for sharing your trip with us!

18. Breathtaking and the music was a wonderful touch.
Once you get away from the populated gambling cities of Nevada, you become aware of what a treasure of natural wonders the state is and a lot of it has to do with the fact that man as a very light footprint there and it's pretty much in the state that mother nature decorated the place with. This is one part of the state I missed and I'm always interested in ancient ruins and petroglyphs. Thanks so much for the experience.

btw I have mac Safari and it came through perfectly.

19. Hi Cleita
Good to see you, as well as, all the rest of you. Its always nice to see all my friends here in my favorite section of DU.

I am glad everyone enjoyed the photos. I just had a thought. Wouldn't it be so cool to have our group and other like minded folks camp at the campground site and in the early evening hold a Shamanic ceremony (with drums & rattles) and have an OBE there? :)

Anyway, if you like the background song its called Vision by artist SoulFood from the album below and can be purchased as an mp3 download at Amazon.com for $.99

Peace and take care everyone
Popol Vuh

20. It would be nice but with the price of gas these days, I don't believe I could
afford to drive to Nevada even though it's the next state over. Maybe others could though.

22. Oh I know exactly how you feel
I own a Toyota Tundra. Its big V8 is too gas hungry so the only way we could do it was to use his little car and share in the gas bill. As for what I use for everyday commuting, no way would I use a large truck like my Tundra - too wasteful. I also own a Ducati motorcycle which I use.

Gas is so ridiculous right now. I hope Obama is able to get some kind of a reasonable price cap on it.

31. My,
a Hearts of Space collection. I used to love Hearts of Space on my local public radio - I would work my schedule around when it was on. I haven't heard it in years upon years.

Thanks, not only for Fire Valley, but for the memories, Popol Vuh! :hi:

26. That's beautiful.
I didn't get any music with it, but I really enjoyed the slides.

I've been to the valley of fire, once about 10 years ago.

Somewhere in a crate I haven't opened since I divorced, I've got some pics. Not like yours; just a few typical tourist pics of great rock formations, and a few more of a gila monster sunning on a rock.

It is truly a great place to connect.

28. The landscape there!
PV,

Fire Valley is absolutely stunning! Thanks so much for posting the pictures. The music is perfect too. If you put together a little sojourn for a stay-over at the camp ground sometime, please count me in. I can imagine a reading aloud from the old legends, opening to visions and writing new poems out there. The thought kept percolating up as I looked at the photos - Wow! What dreams a place like that would bring! Earth of Fire indeed! Just WoW!

As always, thanks again for sharing Popul Vu.
