Think the Egyptian gods like a good laugh?
This is what MG Jr. did to my Egyptian altar while we were decorating for Christmas--note Horus' new headgear, not to mention his companion on the left, usually where my Isis statue stands (but she's in the "shop"--the kitchen--because a cat--lousy familiar that she is--jumped on the altar and knocked her over and broke one of her horns off).

Gee, I kinda like it!

1. Poor Horus will get overheated in that hat
his usual digs being in the desert or at least extremely hot climate :P

2. I figure since he's a transplant
it'll help keep him cozy while it snows here!

I left the Santa hat and the Santa figurine on the altar, BTW. Maybe I'll pack 'em up, maybe I won't...

3. Old Gods Do New Jobs

ever read Hogfather by Terry Pratchett? It's British humor so if you don't like it you probably wouldn't care for the book but I loved it. http://books.google.com/books?id=8l694yT6VZkC&dq=hogfather&source=bn&sa=X&oi=book_result&resnum=6&ct=book-ref-page-link&cad=one-book-with-thumbnail

anyhoo that novel got me thinking about how Santa really is a god of sorts. He hands out punishment (lump of coal, no toys), keeps track of good and bad deeds, and rewards the good ones. So what if he only works one day a year he certainly gets lots of belief to keep him going....

Hee--I just typed "that looks god"--well, that too.

I'm sure I'd like that--one of my all-time favorite novels is Good Omens.

8. That is one of the few Pratchett books I have yet to rread
my first was Small Gods which blew me away. I can't pick a favorite among the subseries in the discworld books. Currently my favorite book is Thud! followed by Wee Free Men (Ach! Crivens!)

4. You have an Egyptian altar? As a belly dancer, I approve!
Edited on Sat Jan-10-09 06:58 PM by Habibi
Santa hat or no!

ETA: "I approve" is not what I meant to convey. "You are cool!" is closer.

6. ROFL I did grok to what you meant
And "I approve" of your being a belly dancer! Some of my coven members took a belly dancing class a while ago (offered at a local dance studio--quite unusual, as it was in a very small town) but I didn't participate. I wish I had, though--they sounded like they had a lot of fun.

10. Hm well
I know that belly dancing teaches you to love your body, no matter what its size and shape, but I think I'd need a WHOLE LOT of belly dancin' to learn to love this whole lotta belly. Got any classes for fat chicks who could put somebody's eye out swinging their stuff around?

beautiful Middle Eastern music, and feel beautiful while doing it!

I have a good dance pal who is plus-sized and she's been dancing and performing for years. And I'm no skinny spring chickie either!

13. The Goddess Baubo
Her origin is said to be in Egypt or Syria. She is noted in Greek mythology for making the grieving Goddess Demeter laugh during her search for Kore.

15. It's OK
Since Horus's birthday is also Dec 25, he thinks it's all about him anyways.

Love your altar...:)

17. True 'nuff
He was here first! Squatter's rights!

Thanks re the altar--MG Jr. has been doing a little rearranging (the amethyst merkaba is supposed to sit on TOP of the copper end-cap to increase generating power, etc. Could use a bit of a dusting too, I reckon.
