I'm going to do my first Tarot reading in 10 years tonight.....
After many years of 1) being freaked out about my last reading (very accurate, and very bad) 2) not feelig healthy enough emotionally to connect to the cards... (I'm feeling much better now)

I'm doing one tonight on the DSM Hearings in DC tomorrow.

I'll post the results in the morning.

Wish me luck?

2. Here it is..... the beginning is great, the end.... Crap - not so good?
June 15, 2005
Subject: DSM Hearing, June 16, 2005, DC

Present Environment

1. Judgment – Awakening, renewal. Legal judgments in one’s favor. There is settlement to a long standing problem or a fresh start. A change in position or an important decision brings renewal. Be open to the new adventures coming at the successful end of the old.

2. The Magician – Will, mastery, organizational skills, creative talents. The ability to take the power from above and direct it through desire into manifestation. The tools are at hand to achieve your goal, and with practice and concentration success is guaranteed. Use your will to seize opportunities and create your destiny.

3. The Star (R) – Pessimism, doubt, stubbornness, lack of perception. Guard yourself against pessimism and stubbornness in the face of unexpected hindrance. Things are not as bad as they seem and the situation requires a positive outlook and a realistic approach to adversity.

Elements of the question...

4. The Moon (R) – Imagination will be harnessed by practical considerations. Storms will be weathered, peace gained at a cost. No risks should be taken. This is the card of the minutia and little toils that hinder us all. Take time to cross all the t’s and dot all the I’s so that careless mistakes do not cause larger problems later.

5. Hanged Man – A pause in one’s life, suspended decisions. Material temptation is conquered. Larger forces than yourself control your destiny. Guard yourself against sacrifices and setbacks. The situation calls for the wisdom to know that things beyond our control must be endured. Try looking at things from a different point of view.

6. 4 of Pentacles (R) – Covetousness, suspicion. Hindrances. Chance of loss of earthly possessions. Avoid foolishly wasting your resources and begin preparing for the uncertainties that may lie ahead.

Obstacles to be surmounted/ how surmounted....

7. Wheel of Fortune – Success, unexpected turn of good luck, change of fortune for the better, new conditions. Better conditions and better opportunities for gain arise through pure chance.

8. 5 of Swords – Failure, defeat, degradation. Unfairness, slander, cruelty. This card indicates DANGER. There is a way out of the situation, but not without a struggle. Be on guard against unfairness, dishonor and cruelty. This card warns of a possible defeat or loss caused by an enemy, even if that enemy is yourself.

9. 6 of Cups (R) – Living too much in the past. Clinging to out-worn morals and manners. Worthless associates. Avoid clinging to the past and put a side worn-out habits and ideas. Disassociate yourself from worthless projects and associates and seek out new experiences and situations.

What will come unbidden...

10. King of Pentacles – A chief of industry, a banker, or owner of large estates. Wise and trust-worthy. This card signifies financial success, even temperament, intelligence and aptitude. This card may also represent a man with black hair and dark eyes.

11. King of Swords (R) – Distrustful, suspicious. Also harsh and malicious. Plotting, barbarity, power for disruption are revealed. He is a barbarian, harsh, violent and cruel. Trusting no-one, he uses evil and wickedness to achieve his power. This card warns of bad intentions, deceptions, disruptions, plots and machinations.

12. 9 of Pentacles (R) – Danger from thieves, cancelled project. Possible loss of home or friendship. Move with caution. This card warns of a financial loss through the deceit of others. There may be a cancelled project, a promise made in bad faith, or danger from swindlers or thieves.

What you can expect to achieve...

13. 2 of Cups (R) – False love, dissipation, folly, disunity, misunderstanding. There are misunderstandings and disunity indicated by this card. Guard against extravagance and self-indulgence, as well as false love and folly in emotional matters. There ay be an ending to a love affair or friendship.

14. 8 of Wands (R) – Delay, stagnation in business or affairs of the heart. Arrows of jealousy. Progress is hampered by jealousy and internal discord. A frank discussion is needed to resolve the petty disputes that are stagnating the situation.

15. Queen of Cups – A woman who is able to put into practice what her visions decree. The good mother, honest, devoted, and loyal. Someone with vision, who is kind though not willing to take too much trouble for another. Success, happiness, pleasure are indicated.

3. Seems pretty solid up to your response to the last three cards.

That looks a lot like I'd expect to see on this subject right now--especially from someone here at DU. I think you are maybe reading those final cards as a negative, however, if you take those iterpretations and filter them thru the perceptions of the current regime it looks to be a pretty grim outcome.

Something that struck me as I looked at your post is the idea that we've had other times that somebody predicted a woman was going to be a big player in the "downfall" of the regime. THIS may be your British "Deep Throat". Either way, that loyalty that the Queen of Cups carries may actually be to the people--not to the regime. The success may be hers in bringing it all down. Had that interpretation occured to you?

I also think there maybe a very clear message there about WHAT dives her desire to speak out. Her heart has been turned by some type of personal betrayal or abandonment. She was left to sit by the sidelines and she feels she is sort of "a woman scorned..."

------

Just my two cents, and even that is from an outsider. That is your reading and your deck--what does your gut tell you about the symbols and how they apply? I hate to harp on it--but readings are very often messages in YOUR mental language and imagery. If you walk away and pick it back up--do you still feel it is a negative outcome?

4. queen of cups
yeah - i remember the queen of cups coming up specifically in other readings posted here - in just the capacity you mention. I remember people trying to figure out who she might be. The British Deepthroat - hmmm, interesting.

i thought the interpretation of the reversed 6 of cups as an obstacle is interesting as well - living in the past - apparently that is *exactly* how Scott McCellan tried to frame John Conyers and what he's doing in a press conference today: http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.ph...

visualize IMPEACHMENT ;-)

9. whoa! you gotta do a major arcana reading!
6 major arcana?!

the gentle rule of thumb is in a celtic reading 4 major arcana stops the reading right there and starts a major arcana reading. considering that's 10 cards and you have 15 here (even though it's in a different layout) 6 major arcana would be the tipping point for a major arcana reading. something huge is behind this.

i suggest (strongly) performing a major arcana reading to supplement this reading. you can use the same layout i believe, looks very familiar to a beginning predicative manteria with a solidifier.

5. I think the Queen of Cups is Hillary! She fits the definition and is also
fair(coloring), an attribute of cups! It could be that she is going to step forward or it could be a forcast of 2008. I am not a Hillary fan but this is what I get! .

6. cool,
i haven't thrown my cards for a long time, either. I never think of the readings as negative. If a downer card shows up it can help to change your destiny by avoiding the wrong circumstances. I have the Motherpeace round deck. The position the card turns up can read weak or strong influence or even that the opposite is implied because the card is upside down. Good blessings on your reading.

10. The quuen of Cups represents a blond woman,
doesn't it?

Valerie Plame is a blond woman, her is her picture from Vanity Fair:

11. The Queen of Cups is frequently very feminine.
If you read your court cards as symbolic of actual people rather than archetypes, the Queen of Cups is often a woman who is very feminine and quite intuitive. She is Water at its most elemental...

12. Then the woman who brings down this administration
won't be Karen Hughes. I suppose it could be Valerie plame, but I have no idea how we could determine her level of feminity or intuition. One would hope an undercover operative would have a high level of intuition, since it would be a geat survival skill. Otherwise...

13. I don't consider the descriptions to each card written in stone.
The person who the card points to could have one or two of the characteristics but not all of them. In my readings the card is often upside down, which means the person could be a steel magnolia rather that ultra feminine. When it was suggested that she could be Valerie Plame, the upside down position spoke to me that it could point to her vocation as being covert or a spy.

14. Queen of Cups
If you read your court cards as symbolic of actual people rather than archetypes, the Queen of Cups is often a woman who is very feminine and quite intuitive. She is Water at its most elemental...

Water takes on the shape of what contains it. A spy takes on identities of convenience; Valerie Plame was "contained" in her front company, her "shape" for her undercover operations. Someone in that profession must have to have a certain malleability, a shape-shifting response to circumstances, as well as intuition. Anyone have her birthdate?

15. I do both as you have with the court cards as you have suggested.
It depends on where they fall and the cards that are close to them. In this case the card could be an actual person and others have suggested even more narrowly that she could be Valerie Plame. The cards and other methods of peeking into the future have predicted that a woman would be the key to the Bush administration coming down. I am just an amateur myself so I don't pretend that I know the absolute truth of this.

16. Water also takes on various forms depending on its physical state.
Think of the various states of being water has.

In liquid form it flows and conforms to the container.

In its solid state of being (Ice) it is rigid and unyielding.

In gas form it is very mobile and full of the promise of condensation (or re-appearance.)

It is called a "mutable" for a very good reason... :)

17. I use reverse meanings too....
and sometimes instead of a person, and their personality, I see them representing situations, or the personallity of a collective influence.
