An odd thing happened today and I thought my forum buddies here might enjoy the story.
The semester just started and in my class Tuesday, I was happy to see a student who had started my course a semester ago but hadn't finished. I really liked this student and was disappointed she had to drop last semester, largely because of health problems. The student is quite obese. She is an honors student, is musically talented, has a terrific personality, and is also very pretty. Her name is Chelsea and she wants to teach kids in places like Elizabeth, Newark, or Trenton. She already works in an after-school program in Elizabeth.
She told me my class was full but that she visited the university's site every day, thinking the odds were that someone would drop the class before the term started and that she could grab the spot. Sure enough, that's what happened and she got the open spot.
The class was around the time of the inauguration, and she and I were the only ones in the room and we watched it on the large-screen projector. Both before and after the ceremonies, we engaged in small talk and during that time, I mentioned having been to the gym prior to the class. I remarked on what a terrific gym it was and inside my head, I wanted to ask her to join me for a workout. I didn't think that would be appropriate, though, so I didn't say anything.
After class, she and I were the only ones in the room and we stayed to watch more of the inauguration. We engaged in small talk, too, and I remarked that I'd been to the gym earlier in the day. She told me her doctor said she had to get more exercise. I really wanted to ask her to join me the next day for a workout at the gym. I didn't, though, because that could be viewed as student favoritism.
So today I arrive at the gym and I'm on a cardio machine and who walks in only a few minutes later but Chelsea. She came right over to the bike section where I was working out and started on a machine before she even saw me.
I was, of course, happy to see her but even more so, I was a bit amazed that she showed up at the same time I did, especially after my thought of asking her to join me at the gym the previous day. Oh sure, it was probably coincidence, but... :)
