(astrology) opinions please:

is Scorpio on the Descendant a similar energy or influence as a Pluto conjunct Venus?

1. I have that Scorp on DSC and
in my experience it depends on the overall chart setup. Pluto conj Venus is traditionally obsessive, rather controlling, suspicious, cold and passionate. Scorp DSC does not tolerate bulls*** in their partners, however, they themselves can exhibit deceptiveness.

2. "however, they themselves can exhibit deceptiveness"
yes, that sounds about right from what I've experienced.
Do you think it's a malicious or conniving sort of deceptiveness,
or an evasive, that's none of your business, sort of deceptiveness?

3. sometimes evasive, more in the line of
none of your business....(naturally protective, secret Scorpio) but if Scorpio really wants to keep someone near them, happy, whatever-they can be charmingly, deliberately deceptive.

5. Hey!
I have Pluto conj Venus (and Mercury) and I'm none of those things. Well okay, I've had a couple powerful attractions in my life that bordered on obsessive, but it's not my norm. Maybe it also depends on house and sign and other aspects ;-)

7. have to consider the entire chart influences-and Mercury conj
cools down the venus & pluto a bit.

4. Not really
Pluto Conj Venus is much sharper of a Plutonian influence. A Scorpio desc is significant, but not as prominent in the personality.
my two cents

8. Scorpio on the desc...
describes the way one approaches relationships. I would look at Pluto conjunct Venus as more about who one is attracted to. Either way, I'd have to see the whole chart. Gemini Sun with Sag. Moon might be less obsessive than Cancer Sun with Taurus Moon on the asc.

9. BTW, Venus conjunct Pluto...
could mean that one lets go of possessions easily, one isn't tied down by them. Scorpio on the desc. could never mean that (people maybe...).

11. beg to differ, i have Scorp on DSC and I have often gladly let
go of possessions, it can be painful, but that is the lesson-"let go"--i always feel lighter (spiritually speaking) afterwards

12. Yeah but...
What else do you have? Where is Pluto? Anything in Scorpio? Eighth house? Any Cancer or Taurus (besides the asc)?

I'm a Cancer Sun, which tradition says will not let go of anything, ever. But I have an Aquarius Moon, Saturn in Scorpio, and Pluto conjunct Jupiter, and can usually leave the past behind with nary a second glance.

It's rather difficult to look at one piece of a chart on it's own, and I often find repetition plus divergence in the influences.

13. if you see my earlier post, i stated one needs to look at the whole
chart-so I concur with you on that....and I have Scorpio and planets in the 8th house and I have been a practicing astrologer for 18 years. We all have our views, some is traditional, but again it all about viewing the chart in its entirety. I am not arguing with you--just a different view/experience.

10. The entire chart must be taken into consideration.
It's like trying to guess the Wheel of Fortune puzzle with just one letter showing.

Planets positions in houses, & planetary aspects to one another would have more influence than just Scorpio Descendant.

Probably indicates a suspicious attitude toward your significant other. This might also apply to the outside world in general. A controlled & controlling attitude.
