Another Tarot reading to ponder.

On April 15th, I sat down to do a tarot reading for the first time since my husband died. My question was:

“In what direction is this country heading?"

The cards came up like this:

#1, six of Wands
#2, nine of WandsR
#3, knight of Cups
#4, five of swords
#5, seven of cups
#6, Ace of cups
#7, Queen of cupsR
#8, Death
#9, King of WandsR
#10, The Chariot.



I haven’t done a spread since then. The interpretation left me wondering. Since then it seems some of the events pointed to are starting to unfold so I was wondering what anyone sees that I don’t.

My interpretation is that we are headed for change, but it should be a change for the better. There will be conflict between the left and right or blue and red as the two court cards between death seem to point to. The change will be in high places in the government. The number of court cards leads me to believe this. The death card indicates to me that one side will be destroyed. I think it will be the red King of Wands that comes down or George Bush and his mob.

The Chariot has me wondering too. What form will our government take after the collapse of the Bush administration? Will Congress take over the real reins of government? Do the cards point to the fact that Bush has done so much damage to the office of President that it will become less powerful in the future with Congress taking much of the powers of the executive office way so that they never are abused again?

What do you think Tarot readers? Do you want to do your own spreads to answer the questions brought up by mine? I have given you my hopeful reading, because there is also a dire reading to these cards which is why I have been pondering them so long. The Democrats starting to speak up and fight back now give me hope that the hopeful reading is the right one. The Knight of Cups that keeps cropping up I think is Howard Dean. When I did the reading he wasn’t anywhere in sight or in the basement so to speak, but in those six weeks he is setting things in motion and rising up to inspire change.

1. I don't have a tarot deck myself

but from just sitting and meditating and sensing I can get that there is the battle between right vs. left going on now. I do think your reading is pretty dead on. Once the change does happen I know there will be a lot of us who can breath a sigh of relief. I do think we're going through that now.

2. Wands and Death. Seems like a lotta change there!

Wands are movement to me. Usually progress, but not always. The addition of all the cups in the reading does make me think it will be more of an emotional transformation rather than any major physical change, however.

I have always read that death card as a transformation, rather than a vanquishing. Death is a forced change. It may not be a happily made change, but it IS change, and it is unavoidable.

It also falls in that 8th place in the reading--in the staff. Traditionally, that is the place of other people's opinions. Sometimes, however, it can swap places with the 7th place (which is the reader's opinions / hopes / attitudes.)

It sounds funny, but that placement gives me a very strong feeling that it is an opinion that is rapidly becoming widely held.


The Chariot symbolizes conflicts ending in victory. It is the victory parade, and it is, again, more movement--more changes. It is also sitting there in your final/tenth placement. That IS supposed to be the final outcome based on what we know and feel at the time of the reading, so I'd say you had a very real idea that this massive change was coming.

I dunno about the Dean correlation for you--Knight of Cups is a Cancer. He's bringing a message or an offer of some kind. (Do we know Howard Dean's birthday? Is he a Cancer?)

I am reluctant to even go into any exam of that because every reader brings a personal set of meanings and associations to a given card. If you SAY it is Howard, then by golly, it is Howard!

That King of Wands makes me wonder. He's sitting there in the placement of Hopes and Fears. He's the seeker, and he's associated with Leo.

I think that King is bringing us some information or some news that is gonna help transform this entire mess. Maybe he's the one to ask questions? Maybe he's the one to finally pick up the words of that Knight of Cups and take them to fulfillment.

5. Yes, it seems to point to a colossal upheaval of sorts.

I was taken aback because it was my first spread since December. It's true that it opens more questions. I haven't set about to do more spreads on the questions yet because I think this spread has a lot more information than I have been able to deduce from it up until now.

8. Dean was born November 17th, 1948

So he isn't a cancer.

3. could the death card have anything to do with Cheney?

There has been some talk in GD and LBN about him being hospitalized for his heart problem.

I don't know a damn thing about tarot cards, BTW, but it was the first thought that came to my head.

4. I don't do personal readings. My readings are

always bad news and I don't lie very well, so I stopped doing them. I'm not professional anyway. I just used to do them for co-workers and friends, but not anymore. There are on line readers who can do it from a distance. Maybe someone here at this forum can help you.

I only do them if I am inspired to do a spread and if they are about events that surround us. Sometimes when the meaning is murky but looks important like this one, I put it up here to get other opinions to shed a light on it on something I may have missed.

6. really good throw

Cleita, to me the throw looks very good, the ace of cups in the immediate future showing something new, a gift. The knight of cups in the root showing some sort of good news being brought forward. The sky shows a scattering of energies, and that options are unsubstantial (our media?). The 6wands crossed by the 9wands shows our conflict between the victory/progress we want, versus the old paranoid energies. Still, these are mostly minor arcana. The court cards seem positive, Qcups and Kwands, which could show 2 key persons in government, or otherwise, who will be helpful in our current situation. The two major arcana cards, death and chariot, really show what we are going thru, esp death card in its own house is fairly intense. And we do continue to see much actual death as well as "death" of some our current systems. I like that the chariot card winds it up, to me that shows that, as you'd said, there will be an improvement. Maybe thru consolidating our forces and getting centered as far as strategy. Glad you posted this, it is a really positive throw imo.
