Is this an orb?
I took this picture at our little trailer at the river. I don't totally buy into the concept of orbs but I am open to it. I can't figure out why there would be that lighter colored area in a perfect circle on the fireplace brick. What are orbs anyway? I would bet on a reflection if it was possible, but not really thinking that is logical here either. i'm sure the flash was on, and the copper platter is there, but the geometry of it and the fact that it looks like it is in the air seems to argue against those things being the cause.

1. I'd say yes
After seeing enough of these, you can start to tell the difference between lens flare, dust particles, and true orbs. The fact that there's only one, and the fact that it has such clearly defined edges, tells me it's an entity. Hanging out. Saying howdy. :D

Nice place, BTW! I like your decorating scheme. It looks very cozy.

2. I probably stirred this thing up..........
The photography group's next contest theme is "red" and just TRY to find red anywhere this time of year. I was desperate at this point so I gathered everything red that I could find in the place to go in front of the painted red brick fireplace and took a zillion pictures. Anyway, that is why it looks a lot more color coordinated than it actually is. The orb came to life only in this one. Oh, yeah, I had to kick all the boxes of fishing lures out of the way, too.

These are not at all good entries for the contest. I ended up with something entirely different, thankfully. But I am glad I took all these because this is my first orb.

Do I dare start a thread about orbs in the photography group?

I didn't see this until I got back home, or I would have said "howdy" back.

4. Could very well be
The fireplace at our first house was an actual vortex--entities used to use it as kind of an ethereal interstate!

As for orb threads here on the ASAH forum, it's very curious--for some reason this topic invites the most skepticism. Many ASAH-ers are adamant that orbs are not entities, that any orb is dust on the camera lens or some other photographic anomaly. I have no idea why, as obviously they're open to consider any other supernatural topic. It's a mystery.

Personally, I'm in the other camp. I have seen lens flare and dust artifacts, but I have also seen orbs in photos that are quite different, and I firmly believe that they are visiting entities. I believe yours is an entity. :hi:

5. skepticism here
It always tickles me too. There are people who believe the most preposterous things here (haha)and I don't challenge them!

These are just not MY fave preposterous things.

One thing I "do" KNOW for sure is that there are entities. That is a proven done deal as far as I am concerned. Now, photographs of them, well, I just know very little about that.

On a related note, ninety eight percent of my normal life I am just a "regular" person. When the two percent comes out my hubby does a little double take. He knows that the two percent is at the core of my being but he forgets it when I am the only one who figures out exactly why his boat keeps pumping water into the livewell and running down the battery. This keeps him humble. :)

7. LOL I'm the opposite
98 percent woo woo!

Mr. MG doesn't challenge me either. He's learned over the years! Now, when something goes nuts with the 'puters at work, he calls me and asks if it's Mercury retrograde!

6. Hi, Celebration!
I stopped believing camera photographed orbs where perhaps spirits when I started reading on paranormal sites that they are, as Fire Walks With Me says, "Specca dust onnalens." But then I noticed they were practically all referring to Fuji Films' analysis. Then I was told of Prof. Klaus Heinemann, NASA, UCLA and Stanford researcher was taking them seriously and started experimenting by ruling out conditions that can also cause the effect, that I don't think Fuji did. But Heinemann still came up with orbs in photos.
Here's an article on Heinemann http://www.merliannews.com/Science_Quantum_Physics_32/Klaus_Heinemann_On_Orbs___Entities.shtml

To me, the jury is still out but I don't believe All of them are dust, water droplets or airborne mites. I've only ever taken 1 photo of an orb, when I was moved to take some photos of my niece while she napped. It is so magical to me and I choose to believe it is her guardian :)

8. Oh, it sure sounds like it is
It's interesting reading all the different internet websites about orbs. That's cool that someone like Heinemann is trying to study it scientifically.

9. LOL, you guys have to see what I got today
Well, I had the opportunity to tour a cotton salvaging operation (who can turn that down). Now I have no idea what to think. Yes there is probably a bit of cotton dust around. Anyway, whether real or not, I think these orbs are a lot of fun. I truly hope someone figures it all out.

10. Do you remember this one?
It's Will Pitt smoking in a graveyard, as it turns out.

Have you changed cameras?

11. I do remember that, and that is funny.........
I have not switched cameras. I know almost next to nothing about orbs and causes of them, even after reading online stuff. That's because I don't think the sources I have read are all that definitive.

I do think there was cotton dust in this place. It was a very old but renovated place. I just saw this when I was editing the pictures and I thought WHOA.......

12. heard a guest on c2c
say that they are entities. He said he'd done some work with them with some sort of software and he could see faces in them.

I think yours might be a dust speck, though, 'cuz I don't see the interior "light" that is more characteristic of the entity kind.

You should take more photos and sooner or later, something else will come through. Then you'll know.

Cher
