Let's help you understand house cusps for once and for all
I know they are confusing until you "get it"
The two diagrams below are Barack Obama's chart. THEY ARE THE SAME thing drawn in two different wheel styles.
Look at them closely especially where the ZODIAC is intercepted with House degrees

Diagram 2 has the zodiacal degrees shown AND the houses. Diagram one just has the houses.

The first one is what I use and many other astrologers. The zodiacal degrees ARE IMPLIED. That's why it's so hard for beginners to see. Concentrate on the house cusps, and you'll get it.
You'll never be confused again.

Therefore, Obama's Saturn is at 25 Capricorn in the TWELFTH HOUSE

Hope that helps.

4. Not really
Yods are quite common and in his case, they're aren't two, the Yod is TO 2 PLANETS. Those two planets combine basically as one force.

I think I got it -- at least where the houses are versus where the zodiacal signs are when I look at my astrodienst chart! So I have, for example, Mars at 28d 35' in Virgo and Venus at 14d 29' in Libra -- and both are in my 1st house. Is that why I'm at war with myself, lol? Or run hot and cold? :D

Npw what in the heck is a yod?

7. Yod = "Finger of God"
Mars and Venus in same house DOES NOT mean that you are at war with yourself.
You see the danger of someone telling you stuff when they don't know?

It's actually a great symbol of sexual and emotional CHARISMA!
It makes you very charming
have to see the whole chart first.

A YOD is a special CONSTRUCT that implies great karmic energy of the planets involved. The two planets one one side are harmonious but are in a stressful relationship with the singleton. It put's great stress on the one across from it.
It's relatively minor, I think. But, I happened to notice that I HAVE A DREAM seems to be real high on them.

15. You have strong Pisces characteristics
because of tsquare to Neptune and Saturn characteristics (Capricorn) because Saturn is next to your Sun.
A pretty well balanced chart.

Jupiter is near the top of your chart making you very expressive/talkative. Happy energy. Sagittarian

You have a nice blend.

This triad of planets we're under is in your 6th house, suggesting you will be learning some new job skill, probably already started.
good luck

17. I am learning a new job skill
I just finished the pre-reqs and was accepted into med lab tech school, which starts in September. Don't know how I'm going to pay for it, though...things are starting to look pretty grim on that front.

9. Okay. I understand houses. I don't understand cusps.
I'm not trying to be funny. I understand cusp to be where the house starts. Is that right? If it, so what? What is the significance of the cusp?

11. Cusps
Cusps are between signs and houses

With Signs, there is no cusp, 29.59 degrees of Capricorn is Capricorn, not Aquarius YET
People think there are sign cusps because newspapers have to print SOMETHING for the date the Sun changes signs, however, it changes differently every year, sometimes on diff. days.

WIth houses:

its the actual position IN THE ZODIAC or SIGN where one house ends and another starts, yes.
Houses blend into each other

If the House 5 in a chart STARTS at, let's day, 15 Gemini and you have a planet at 13 Gemini, it will greatly have an effect on the next house 6 as well as a minor effect on house 5.

In Obama example I started with, for instance, his FIFTH house goes from 23 Gemini 59 thru 19 Cancer 01

Hope that helps

21. The charts are different in that the outside ring shows where the signs...
Edited on Sun May-31-09 03:28 PM by I Have A Dream
begin and end in the second one but not the first. Correct, Rick? (At least that's all that I see that's different between the two.)

I much prefer the second way of looking at a chart to the first since I can more easily calculate how many signs are between planets and can more easily see which signs are in which house. It could be calculated from the first, but the second way allows me to immediately determine it without any thinking required. (I can then focus on other things.)

I have a really difficult time using the type of chart that Rick likes. (He's an expert though, and I'm about as far from expert as you can get. :))

22. Yes, they are the same yet different
You have it right. I find that I can "eyeball" where the zodiacal degrees are without the 2nd type. THat way, the chart is simpler for me to look at. After all these years, I just look at the same type 1 all the time and BOOM, I can see the message without the signs getting in the way.

THe signs are secondary
THe aspects between the planets are primary

You'll find as you grow and get more experience, you won't need chart type 2 as much.
Whatever, they both work, and do what you are comfortable with.

You're doing well and your class IS DOING EXCELLENT!
