Square Foot Gardening Pics

I was reading the Square Foot Gardening Forum at Garden Web and ran across a poster that linked to his square foot garden pictures over on his flicker site. So I thought some of the folks here might have an interest in seeing these pictures.

This guy is doing some real serious gardening. He has an interesting way of setting up the corners on his raised beds...I've never seen it done that way, but it makes sense.

1. I'm implimenting this this year.

The gardens in the picture you linked to didn't have the grid -- according to Mel Bartholamew (the inventor of "SFG"), this is essential. I figure on my small little lot I'll easily be able to get 3 4 X 4 gardens. I'll be growing my zucchini, summer squash and some cucumbers in the front this year. One of the 4 X 4 is a deep one (12") so I'll be able to grow green onions, potatoes, sweet potatoes and carrots. All of them will have a trellis where I want to grow gutas (Armenian cucumbers) and okra.

2. I've been using SFG for several years using Mel's mix and his method of gardening

and some of my beds I used a grid and some I didn't. The ones that didn't have a grid laid out on the box, I estimated the SF so in essence it was SFG without the grid. However, technically, at least according to Mel Bartholamew, a planter box without a grid is not a SFG.

As far as the pictures are concerned, I merely linked to the other site and referred to it as a SFG since the poster of the pictures referred to his garden as a SFG. Basically, I just thought some people might have an interest in seeing another method for corner construction of a planter bed...that was the main reason I posted it. I also thought his pictures of the tomato plants hanging upside down were interesting...I've never seen tomatoes grown that way. Sometimes I just think it's fun to see pictures of other peoples gardens.

Absolutely NOT my intent and I appreciate the link to the pictures. And yes, since I'm new to the SFG method, I'm hungry (no pun intended) to find others who have done it. :hi:
