Pet safe weed and bug killer suggestions needed....
Thanks to my weed-loving neighbors and the weed-full field behind my house every season but winter is a challenge and hand-pulling is just not cutting it. Every kind of weed tarp has failed, gravel has failed, stepping stones fail and make it hard to pull the weeds. The cats and the dog eat this annoying grass that looks like bermuda but its not and it makes them :puke: and since they are prone to eating what is back there I am hesitant to just nuke the area. Plus I have a good helping of mint (which we use) and mini-strawberries as ground cover (which the birds love) and don't want to harm any of them. Its not that big of an area, but I could spend all weekend out there just pulling weeds (mostly johnson grass and and that bermuda type grass) and well, I've got better things to be doing.

Thanks!

1. Corn Gluten Meal
I've never tried it but know people who have. They say it works. See http://wihort.uwex.edu/turf/CornGluten.htm

6. Only works prior to germination. Established weeds are not
affected. Also, it sells like cornflakes and one of my dogs tried to eat it LOL

2. Vinegar, but don't use it around plants you want.
Boiling water will work, too. There's a product on the market that works like blowtorch. It's a mini flamethrower that uses a small propane tank. You use a "wand" to deliver a flame to the offending weeds/grass.

4. Re the Vinegar...
do you just spray it on or pour it on the ground to seep in.

5. Either, but you'll probably have more control over where it goes if you pour it on.
