Herbs/Vegetables that grow well with moderate sunlight

Hey all,

I've got a planter back behind my garage that I'm planting for the first time this season (actually this is the first time I've ever planted a garden, so feel free to talk to me like I don't know what I'm doing, because I don't). The planter is pictured below. The back half of the planter, closest to the garage, doesn't get a whole lot of sun, probably 3-4 hours of sunlight, from mid-morning until about 1:00 P.M.

What sort of vegetable or herb would grow best in these conditions? The soil is only average, but I have added quit a bit of good garden soil and I turned all the soil in the planter to loosen it up. I don't have a whole lot of space, so I'd prefer something on the small side.

1. Swiss Chard?

I planted some going by the packet it said that although it's similar to spinach, it does much better in warmer weather than spinach/lettuce. Packet also said plant prefers full sunlight but does best when protected from full afternoon sun.

Might be worth a shot?

3. Try peas

an annual that grows with little maintenance in the garden and does extremely well in organic soil. They grow well even in crowded areas and require little maintenance. The fruits of the plant are the peas, which can be eaten raw, but both the peas and the pod are delicious when cooked and sautéed with butter.

Peas are extremely weather tolerant and the seeds can be planted in the spring while frost is still in the ground. The seeds will germinate in a wide range of soil temperatures, from 40 to 75 degrees F, as long as the soil is moist and well drained and there is a moderate exposure to full sunlight.

They just need something to hang onto as they grow up, like a net or something hanging on the wall.
