The garden is burning up fast
My yields won't be anything near some years past. I am going to have to put up a permanent sun screen for next year like the stuff they have above the Garden center in Walmart. Who would have ever thought you have to protect your garden from the sun.

1. It was 112 degrees in the shade...
behind my Walmart sunscreen and under my covered patio on Sunday. Add at least 5 degrees on the deck. If you've got good ventilation suncreen is probably a little more effective. I'm Hand watering everyday. Not even the pool provides relief. Its only June!!!! August and September are going to be an inferno if this keeps up.

2. Late July came in early June this year.

Hot & Dry.
We've had no mentionable rainfall since May.
The tomatoes low to the ground are ripening, but I don't see new blossoms making fruit....just too hot.
The melons (cantaloupes) are still making new fruit, and it looks like the pole beans are still making beans, but we are dialing back our expectations this year.
We are thankful we have a good well (spring fed). We are running it wide open all day.
If not for the well, everything would be dead and dry.

I don't know how much good sun shades will be in this HEAT, but we are talking about them too.
I really pray that this is an year is an anomaly.
If this is what we can expect every year due to Climate Change, then we will have to consider other options.

We planted Field Peas (Crowder Peas) in Late June last year, and they did great in the July/August heat. You might want to give them a try.

Good Luck.
We are doing the Rain Dance here.

On Edit: We are also starting some tomato seeds planning to transfer the seedlings sometime in August.
If things work out right, we could harvest some tomatoes in September....or maybe not.
We've never tried this, but it should work out if everything goes our way.

On Edit Edit:
I just checked the Accuweather Enhanced Doppler Radar, and it looks like you are getting some good rain today.
Send some our way.
:hi:

4. I wish I could send you the giant tree that is now hovering over
1 end of my garden and blocking the afternoon sun. It's going to get a haircut very soon.
