Anyone ever tried rooting tomato plant cuttings for a fall crop?
So, my yellow pear and cherry tomato plants seem to be winding down for the season. While looking for info on something else (bacterial spot is taking out my "mystery tomato") I found a post on Garden Web talking about starting new plants from cuttings stuck into potting soil.

http://forums.gardenweb.com/forums/load/tomato/msg0612374628014.html

So, I snipped off a couple of long cuttings and so far so good. Wonder if I'll actually get any tomatoes? It's getting pretty chilly here at night now.

The thread also talks about overwintering tomato plants. Has anyone tried THAT?

1. We haave done this for years.
The longer the cutting the better. Bury them as deep as possible for more root growth. Once they root put them in the warmest spot you can with sun. If you have a lamp it helps to give them longer "daylight hours" Keep them pruned like a bonsai or root dwarf varieties. My mom has tomatoes all year in a three season room close to the heater. Annual herbs too.
