Starkraven brought home some small, expensive hot house tomatoes from the grocery store this week....
not bad for "store bought" in February.
The taste had a very brief suggestion of what a tomato SHOULD taste like....a very fleeting slight reminder,
but it put me into Tomato Euphoric Recall.

2. Know the feeling, bvar22

Was in a nursery today and couldn't resist buying one Stupice tomato plant.
Know it's a bit too early to plant outside, but will keep it cozy until it warms up a bit.
Wish i had kept some of the "water walls" that i used in OR. Will have to check the catalogs.....
Be patient....spring will be here soon.......z

We're getting so excited, as well. I have my order list ready - and we're putting it in today. Since we're up north/Chicago area, we have a bit longer lead time for seed starting. Can't Wait for Spring!

6. Me as well, but I have "signs" to inspire me here in VA

My daffodils started coming up last week! Yaaaay. Of course then they were covered by 12 inches of snow, but that won't hurt:)

7. I was just tramping in the snow, counting

the paces between the stakes for my new garden bed. I've decided to do raised beds, because the soil is very poor where I am. I'm going to create a series of beds; some stone and some wattle. I am so excited, I can't stand it. I'm going to cover the bottom with both wire mesh and weed barrier mat and build the beds up 12 inches from the ground. If I ever learn to post pics, I'll be sure and let you see the progression of my garden.

8. I started from the ground up last year

My house is 160 years old and surrounded by farm fields. I had no idea what was in the soil, so I put in raised beds. Check out the book "Lasagna Gardening" from the library. I was able to layer newspapers, peat moss, dead leaves, topsoil and manure and plant in the same week. I had a bumper crop of tomatoes and green beans last year even though I didn't get started 'til very late in the season. (I was housebound for a month following a respiratory illness that nearly did me in.)

9. I'm so glad to hear that you are well again

Thanks for the book rec. I'll check it out right away. It sounds like it is my kind of gardening. Interesting about the manure and plant in same week. I always thought it should cool down before planting in it. But I'm open to new ideas. I just moved to a new climate zone and I'm sure this year will be a learning curve.

10. I can't wait!

I'm planting some weird stuff, just for some fun. Some cotton, some bamboo, lots and lots of herbs and I'm also doing all the regulars of course.

My Seed Saver Exchange catalog. I found lots of good info on their site too. I saw a real cool system for tomato (and the like) supporting. I may try it.

I can't wait.
