Plastic gallon milk containers make great plastic cloches.
Keep the cap and rinse the containers really well. Cut the bottom off the container and set it over young plants. The cap can be left on or taken off is air circulation is needed.

We used a few last year to get an early start on our watermelon and they worked wonderfully. We have been saving more all winter. We store them through the winter by threading them by the handles and hanging them in the garage.

2. I have never heard of a hat called a cloche.
:)

I suppose you could use a milk carton for that as well. :P Would have to rinse them REALLY well.
