Spring yet?
Hello -- how has everyone's winter been. Bad for the most part, at least for all of us east of the Rockies, it appears.

Here in SE Michigan, February was snowier than the rest of the winter combined. Some melting this week, but nothing that promised to get rid of the ankle to knee deep blanket of white. It would be nice, though, to have a little better weather and get outside in the yard and start cleanup.

It's really too early to start much yet here -- I do need to get going on peppers and artichokes from seed soon, within the next week or so. Maybe a few extra early tomatoes to have larger transplants.

But otherwise, it will be about a month before it's time to really plant. My onions are set to ship the day after Easter, 33 bunches, that's always fun. Can plant fava beans and the first peas at that time, too, as well as some very early greens.

Anyone else doing anything much in the way of gardening yet?

1. Started some seeds this morning.
Getting things cleaned up now. We have rain, then sun, then more rain, then more sun.

Set up a little 4 shelf green house I got at Harbor, only 30 bucks with a clear plastic cover and I love it, so I'm doing some seeds and some other clippings in that with a light.

Can't wait to eat some good stuff and smell some pretty flowers.

2. I'm going to start indoor seeds in "Cowpots" soon here in northern MN.
Whole Pots you just transplant - made from cow dung! How ingenious, eh? Welcome to DU! :hi:

We've been having global warming (ha!) at 40 and more. Lots of sun which lifts me. Spring is just around a short corner, I hope. Or maybe March came in as a lamb and will go out as a lion?

4. What a great idea!
I'm going to check around to see if I can find some "cowpots" around here.

Thanks for the tip! :)

3. I found some garlic sprouting in my fridge
so I planted a couple of cloves in December. It's taken off like gang-busters. :) I went to Lowe's last week & bought some tomato plants & plugged them into the ground & a couple containers. They're doing well too. Our nights are in the 40s, but it's getting up to the 70s during the day. I hope to get some tomato action by the time summer comes & kills off my plants like it did last year. :(
