First crazy weather of the 2010 gardening season...
Hail in April:

In the foreground is the disappointing strawberry plant from 2009 that I yanked from its pot and tossed into the upper garden in a fit of pique last fall. It survived in its little mound of uprooted potting soil, so it's being given a second chance to prove its worth this year. Peas in a pot in the back...trying a much earlier planting this year. Fennel to the back left-- first try growing it. Not sure how the supposedly finicky finnochio will feel about the frisson from flying frozen fragments.

3. Southwest Virginia.
It had been in the high eighties all day and then... WHAMMO!

Almost 90 here today too so all that hail became a slow-release watering system. :)

2. I got pelted with giant hail today here in Michigan.
I just happened to come inside about 2 minutes before the deluge. I would have had some serious forehead dents if I'd been caught in it.

4. We just missed having to drive home in it. Pulled into the driveway
and suddenly it sounded like a thousand angry squirrels were jumping on the car roof.
