Thanks for posting it. I ordered them, just to see what comes. I basically need NO seeds this year, I have a lot left over that I put into the "seed vault" last year. I just need to buy the few things that don't store (parsnips come to mind) and anything I am short on or out of when I go to actually plant (I think this means peas, basically, IIRC).

3. YW. I wish there was a list of what in there but it's all good. I knw there's some type of lettuce

tomato and what my mother said looked like a type of oriental eggplant but she was so busy writing down the info, she missed some.

5. Awww, I hope they surprise you

I just got mine started - about 130 seeded in little peat pots and egg cartons covered with plastic wrap all laid out on my living room coffee table :S. I left the chive seeds out and hope they'll be ok since we got a freeze too.

10. Can't sign up with a P. O. Box!

I just emailed them, but their stupid online form will not accept a P. O. Box - which is how I prefer to get my mail. My street box is not secure, stuff gets stolen. And it has been bashed, mail does not stay dry, which would not be good unless I wanted sprouts instead of seeds.

11. the form leaves a lot to be desired

Not only can't you use a PO Box, you can't use abbreviations in the street address, or non-alphanumeric characters in the comments section. Plus, the mandatory opt-in box only gives you the choice to opt in. I was peeved, as I've dealt with Seeds of Change the seed company before without any hassle. But, hey, cheap seeds, even if they turn out to be last year's stock.

Maybe they will fix it. Otherwise I'm SOL since I would have to have a correct billing address in order to pay for the S&H.

I also did not like the "opt in" that turns out to be mandatory. I'll try to remember to include that in any replies I send to them if they respond to my message.

that Seeds of Change was bought out by Mars Inc.
"on August 2010, Mars, Incorporated announced that it would close the El Guique farm and move some management to Los Angeles. A final tour of the farm was provided on Saturday, August 14. A spokesperson for Mars indicated the closure was due to a "strategic shift" and that not all the employees would retain their jobs.<4> One farm employee was left as of August 14, 2010. Others were relieved of their jobs without prior notice about August 1, 2010.
The property is being sold without consideration for the value of the accumulated knowledge that was on store at the site."
So far Seeds of Change claims to remain organic.
Not sure how they handle their mailing list tho.

My bias is that I have been an organic grower since 1980, in a variety of settings, city and country.
So wanted to share this info for those who are dedicated to keeping seed companies out of the hands of big business.

The focus of the web site was on their organic foods business rather than the seeds. I would expect an established business like Mars to be a bit better in terms of customer interface.

It's hard keeping track of who owns who these days. I know Burpee acquired Cooks' Garden, and Totally Tomatoes and Vermont Bean Co. seem to be the same.

I am a business and got the 3 pack package and wow!
Packages of seed are:
28 flowers
7 herbs (though some flowers could've gone into herb category)
7 pumpkins
4 winter squash
2 zucchs
3 corn (1 baby, 2 tricorored)
2 beets
1 bush snap bean
1 leek
2 onions
1 celery
1 bok choy
9 salad greens
7 muskmelon/melon
4 watermelon
3 peppers (sweet & habenero)
4 tomatoes
7 eggplant
2 broccoli
2 purslane
2 ground cherry

While there are a couple duplicate types, most are single varieties.
I am going to need a lot of cold frames, a lot of pots next to the house to stay warm and have a LOT of seeds to give away.

I need another table in front of my window for starts. HAPPY!

21. I've mailed packages to 4 family/friends, have over 60 pots with seeds started, it is great

I am rich. Now, if only it would warm up enough to be able to plant....

This inspired me to expand the garden, putting spuds and squash in a new bed outside the fenced area, probably with bird net over them to keep the garden rats deer out of them. It is wonderful and thank you SO much for posting this.

30. I had to put a cage on top to discourage the cats (ooo, fresh dirt!). It finally got sunny

here, and drying out. I've a lot that's waiting for it to get a bit warmer. MrUP is building a couple cold frames to start corn in in the garden, planted beets and carrots today.

31. Finally got my seeds!

They came yesterday. The haul was

2 packets of arugula
2 packets of basil
1 packet Lutz Salad Leaf beet, that I'm not familiar with
4 packets of eggplant, all the same variety ("Black")
2 packets of hollyhocks
1 packet of pepper "Pizza"
3 packets of lettuce "Bacarole"
3 packets of zinnias
1 packet of calendula (the stuff grows like a weed)
1 packet of marigolds
1 packet of giant sunflower
2 packets of Shasta daisies
1 packet of cherry tomatoes
1 packet of watermelon

The tomato, pepper and eggplant will have to wait for next year. The flowers can be planted now, the lettuce later this summer. The only ones I probably won't use are the watermelon and the sunflowers - they're too big for my yard!

32. Great. The mail just went. They came. Four hours before the Apocalypse.

And, I wasn't expecting many multiples of the same thing -- 5 packs of romaine type lettuce, 6 packs of the same kind of carrot. Oh well, c'est la vie.

Beggars can't be choosers, especially for free or virtually free.

here they are, ymmv:

4 packs-barcarole lettuce
3 packs each-d'avignon radish, cilantro, pizza pepper, nantes carrot
1 pack each-smart pickle cucumber, love lies bleeding amaranth, lettuce leaf basil, cascadia bush snap peas, bulls blood beet, cherry tomato, gold nugget squash, black eggplant, and mesclun salad mix

several of them are heirloom. it's probably too late to plant (by seed) the summer crops, but still plenty left for fall and (next spring) yum!

like some of you, i wasn't expecting so many multiples, but the price was right. really eager to try the gold nugget squash as i'd never heard of them before.
