I am a lucky person. Yesterday we were picking our Standard Poodle puppy up from the doggy dude ranch where she goes once a week to play, our other dogs are older and apparently boring, and we ran into a woman with a Standard younger than ours and she wanted to know where the poodle people get together. Well of course we had no idea, we just got this one in December and we really had not thought about it. While talking we discovered she had just moved here to take the job of Senior Associate Editor of Mother Earth News. Her name is Robin Mather. We talked more and found out she had been a food journalist for most of her career and written a book called "A Garden of Unearthly Delights: Bioengineering and the Future of Food". Her newest book is not out yet or perhaps just out on Amazon entitled "The Feast Nearby" How I lost my job, buried a marriage, and found my way by keeping chickens, foraging, preserving, bartering, and eating locally (all on forty dollars a week). If you have read "Animal, Vegetable, Miracle" by Barbara Kingsolver you would probably like this. I bought a copy from her and am immersed in it. Recipes abound, beautiful stories and I am barely into the book yet. I can't wait to finish my own planting today and start reading more. I thought during this little break I would come in and recommend it. Look for her in your next Mother Earth News. Here is the website for her book
