Some of you may remember my discussing my habit of haunting the "Distressed Plants" section at the back of my local Lowes garden department.
About a month ago, I shelled out a mere $2 for a plant that was looking kind of scraggly and sad, but which had a few pretty purple and white striped blossoms on long, leafy stalks.
One month later and here she is:

When I first brought her home, one of the stalks was just about snapped off, so I snipped it and put it in water and, lo and behold, it rooted and IT'S blooming on my kitchen windowsill! I have high hopes I can keep the rooting alive through the winter and have this pretty girl in my garden again next year.
It's called "Angelmist Angelonia" and it likes full sun and "thrives on heat" which we've of course had in abundance this summer.
(see how faded the tag is? Poor thing waited a long time to be adopted!-- Oh, and please excuse groddy dirty gardening fingernails. I forget to out on gloves about 99% of the time. ;) )
Here's more on the purple-stripe variety like I have :
http://www.whiteflowerfarm.com/70264-product.html (Note that the color in my pic is truer than the one on this webite. the foliage is a lovely true green and the flowers a deep purple w/white.)
Anyone else grow Angelonias?? I'm thinking I may have to try some others next year, though the $2 price tag will be hard to beat!
