I am shopping for lavender plants and I am overwhelmed
I want maybe two varieties: one big and white, and the other small and dark purple. Silver foliage a plus.

Sadly, there are over 200 cultivars and they're all so similar I am overwhelmed. :(

1. Ah, but the good news - if they are that similar, use lowest price as a guide!
We can't grow lavender well in North Carolina (heavy clay soil)....so I can't help much with varieties.

this resource looks good - http://www.mountainvalleygrowers.com/herbshtol.htm

may be worth emailing the vendor and spelling out exactly what you are looking for - plant people are generally really happy to help.

good luck!

2. I have that exact window open already
:D

They're in California and I think they ship year-round.

The thought of ordering their blind assortment sounds like a lot of fun. :D

3. Hey, they have Leonotis.
That is a beautiful plant. And one I've not been able to overwinter. Worth buying new just for the September display -- like giant orange bee balm.

5. For anyone who lives in a milder climate than yours
they also have Mexican Marigold, which kicks ass.

It's blooming right now. :D

4. I live by a giant lavender growing place, attend Lav Fest mid summer. Folgater for
medium size and very dark flowers. Try these guys, they have a lot of varieties, a lot of knowledge over a lot of time. And are nice people. If you email, they'll get back to you pretty quickly.

They should be able to advise you on foliage.

I've several kinds myself, found a really cool spanish lav that starts out green, then the flower part is white with a purple base (madrid blue). A couple grosso, munstead, varied ones.
