question about roses... I have about 13 rose bushes of various
varieties. They have all bloomed fantastically, but for some reason this year I have two that aren't. They are very healthy bushes right beside others that are blooming profusely.Anyone know why they aren't blooming? Nary a bud.

1. Change in light exposure?
Could it be that some trees or something have matured this year and are throwing off more shade than they used to? I have that problem, I always have to cut my trees back some in the spring cuz a couple of years ago they started shading the roses which made them total duds...

2. Deer?
I have a Therese Bugnet rose that never seems to bloom. This year I finally realized that the deer like it better than my other varieties, and nip off the young growth and buds during the night.

Another possibility -- did these two roses get too much nitrogen somehow? Perhaps a cat is using their planting area as a litterbox? Too much nitrogen encourages heavy leaf growth but no bloom.

3. thank you the cat thing may be the problem, no problem with
light exposure or deer, but we have an inside cat that likes to sit in the windows and there are several neighborhood cats that visit off and on outside the windows (they like to sit and "talk" to each other)this could very well be the problem thank you again, will have soil tested.
