Anybody growing "Magillas" this summer?

They are similar to Coleous, take lots of sun and grow like a weed. I tried one last year and could not believe how large it grew. They make a great big colorful splash on a sunny side of the house. Our weather has been horrendously hot so I water ours every day and they are doing great. They are a little deceiving because at the nursery they look rather small and meek and mild but once they start growing they turn into a great big colorful potted monster.

Anything that can take the unrelenting sun of southern and western exposures in Santa Fe and hold onto its color is bound to be popular, although it would have to be grown as a container annual, probably.

2. I got one last year

and put it in the middle of a big old wheelbarrow and surrounded it with wave petunias and stuck it out in the sun. I asked the lady at the nursery if one Magilla would be sufficient for a wheelbarrow and she said that it might not hold one. It swamped the petunias and even survived Katrina. My begonias and geraniums are suffering from the heat but the Magilla and Hydrangeas (in partial shade) are doing fine. I hope you can find one, good luck.
