Any Iowa gardeners here trying to grow melons this year?
What am I doing wrong? I put in Sugar Babies, cantaloupe, and one other set of melon (can't remember the variety). They've gotten plenty of sun and rain, Lord knows, and the vines are not very big. Only the Sugar Babies have put out 3 fruit thus far in spite of having plenty of blossoms for awhile. Last year we had cantaloupe to the point that we were sick of them. This year we have had blossoms for the past three weeks and not one of them looks interested in turning into fruit.

1. Are your local temperatures higher than normal? We can't grow
that kind of stuff in Florida in the summer because it's way too hot

2. The Muscatine Melons are now available
Are you in Eastern Iowa? At least you can buy some of those at the farmer's markets since your plants are being stubborn.
You can also download this .pdf from the ISU extension service on cucurbit diseases. Not sure if it will help. Or, call your county extension office to see if they have any ideas.
