I have a "tree" question...not sure this is where to ask it,
but I have two huge live oaks in my yard...and one of them has large wound type area near its base and I am wondering if it would be a good idea to fill the area with some substance...and what is good to use if I do fill it. Could I just use a cement mix and just sort of plaster the wound area? I am sure it has been there for a very long time..and the tree seems basically healthy. I just wonder if filling the hole could help to keep it so for as long as possible? Anyone have any ideas? Thanks!

1. the experts usually say don't cover the wound but
I wonder if because of oak wilt you should make an exception?

It will be interesting to see what someone who actually knows what they're talking about says.

2. This is a good question for your local Extension agent or a tree service in your area...
...as local conditions really influence the recommendations in a case like this. Generally you are better off not trying to cover it, especially if it is an old wound and the tree seems healthy. But if your area is experiencing an infestation of parasites or disease organisms there may be some recommendation for temporary protection. Check it out. Very few of the DoA Extension folks have been Assimilated into the Bushborg yet, they are still mostly competent, knowledgeable, and well-intentioned.

encouragingly,
Bright
