Lilacs blooming already?! |
|
I'm in Zone 5/6 (Michigan near Lake Erie). These are non-early-bloomers. Old style plants.
My lilacs usually bloom when I take vacation (last two weeks in May), are already in the early stages of bloom. I'm thinking full blush next weekend at the latest. Anyone else noticing an early bloom for their lilacs?

1. They are blooming in Ohio |

as well as the azaleas and dogwoods. My Miss Kim lilac is not showing color yet. It's a really late bloomer.

2. Yep - I'm not but 45 miles from Ohio, tops. |

Mine are just blooming pretty early for my taste. Not that I truly mind! I love me my lilacs. :-)
It's just a little weird to see them so soon up here.

3. Just checked the weather - frost possibility tonight |
|
The blossoms may end up as short lived as the ones that bloomed before the big freeze.

4. I'm thinking you're right. |

Mine went full bore (ahhhhh - that fragrance washed my whole lawn) then went downhill with the cool nights.
Ah well. Lilacs are the most temperamental AND short-lived of my favorite bloomers. I love 'em when I got 'em though.
Thanks for your input, cmd - it's nice to hear back. :-)
