Free trees

I was looking for trees that would thrive in my hardiness zone and found that if you join the National Arbor Day Foundation, they will send you 10 free trees. You can also enter your zip code and alternate trees are available. For example, instead of receiving 10 flowering trees, oak trees, or blue spruce, I can receive 5 crepe myrtles.

Has anyone here done this? If so, how was your experience?

He's received trees from them, and as far as I know has had no problems.

2. we got some unsolicited tiny trees in tha mail a while back.

Planted them and a couple survived. These were the tiny sticks with a few roots trees. They seem ok to me.

3. We got a Washington Hawthorn from Arbor Day

about five years ago. It was just a twig, now its at least 15 feet tall. I didn't have as good a luck with dogwoods, but the redbuds did well. I believe its a good cause.
