Anyone ever use a saw tooth shovel?
I'm moving a lot of wood chips and straw from the chicken house and am wondering if a saw tooth shovel will dig into the piles better than the standard style.

1. I think those are designed for cutting masses of roots
Those with ^^^^^ for teeth on the leading edge. How about a pitchfork? If the floor is solid, you could use a coal shovel. Dig we must.

2. The stuff falls through the prongs of the pitch fork.
It's tough to drive the shovel into the mass to grab some.

3. How about a garden fork?
A garden fork is a rough, tough rascal made of forged steel with blades maybe an inch wide. Probably a bit smaller. It's stock use is for digging potatos. I use it to "deep fork" the soil in my garden to aerate it to an extra foot of depth. Did I say it was tough? It might be heavy for moving the wood chips and straw. And it's another thing to buy. But if you want deep wide beds for raised bed gardening, the garden fork is your friend.
