i'm growing cacao....any florida DUers tried to grow it?

i'm growing cacao....any florida DUers tried to grow it?

i've got a couple of properties near the pacific coast here in costa rica and they have cacao on them. the property near golfito has got an acre or two that was planted by the previous owner. i've seen three different varieties on the property, including one that seems to be the native, wild cacao. cacao is used to make chocolate.

last weekend i was at the property and saw tons of ripe cacao on the trees. this is a rarity as the white faced cappuchin monkeys usually eat all the ripe cacao before i ever get to see any of it. i brought back a bunch of cacao to eat and collect seeds.

has anyone here ever tried to grow cacao from seed? i imagine miami area DUers probably could get it to fruit.

i didn't have my camera with me this time so i didn't photograph any of the ripe fruits, but here are some photos i took a month or so ago of the unripe cacao on the property:
