I am stoked about my garden this year

I haven't gardened since I broke up with my ex 5 years ago. Nothing fancy, just large tomatoes, cherry tomatoes,lettuce and radishes.

Plus, gardening burns calories!

4. Hi, all! pirhana, I'm newbie here too!

Just about 'retired' from 4 years of political fantasy, and as luck would have it (really,) hope to move with dear friend into suburban townhouse soon. So like you, pirhana, I'll be here more, too!

Haven't been inside, and have only glanced at outside, I'm told 'garden' area is small, but I'm starting to think. May not be able actually to see the place for a week or so, but I'm starting on my small gardening fantasies! (ANYTHING to keep me sane, after the last 7 years!)

YEARS ago, had great flower boxes on apartment deck; moved into house and didn't gain 'control' of gardening rights; moved out 1 year ago. So ready to think!

6. For the newbies

The best place to learn about gardening in your area is your state extension service website, or your county extension office. I know I say that a lot in this forum, but they really are the experts in your area. And, since your tax dollars support the extension service, you may as well take advantage of it. Good luck!

7. agreed, our county extension had great handouts on the times to plant

what kind of plants do well and amendments that are generally needed in our area

our extension agent is a great guy and returns phone calls fast too when needed

I was sure my husband would scoff when I brought up a garden. Every year for the past five years I've brought it up & he's said, "Go ahead." This year, though, he said, "We really need to get started on this, this year." We're going to start small so as not to overwhelm ourselves.

5. Try some ornamental pepper seeds

They are great in a pot and add a nice splash of color in a sunny area.
