I need help!!!!
Edited on Mon Mar-03-08 09:12 AM by Highway61
with ants. I mean, I REALLY need help getting rid of them. I fear I have a HUGE ant colony that has taken over the area of lawn next to my garden. (My neighbor put in a new septic 2 years ago and I fear they have moved right in my yard.) There is a small stone wall lined with hostas and and 20 x 20 foot area where the ground is "soft" from the ant infestation.
I have (had) a beautiful rhubarb plant the was destroyed bt the ants eating the roots (I guess)and the hostas are puny and lanky looking as well. When my sweet corn came in last year I pulled the husks back only to find hundreds of ants on the kernels. They destroyed just about everything in my garden. When I moved one of the rocks in the wall next to the rhubarb...there were literally thousands of them! I poured boiling H2O over that spot and down the "holes" and the next day they were back with a vengence. I know the area is too large for me to take on by myself. I will not be having a garden this year because of it. I can't rid them and believe me, I have tried it all. Anyone have any suggestions?? I am desperate to have my garden back. Here is what my garden use to look like and my beautiful (late) rhubarb.

4. You might have to find out what kind it is first
Contact your county extension office and see if they have someone who can identify it, and offer solutions for getting them out of your garden. I'm sure they've dealt with this problem before.

7. Don't give up on your rhubarb, it may come back this year.
Pyrethrum is NOT SAFE FOR CATS!Comes in spray or powder. So if you have a kitty in the garden it's a no go. If not get your garden treated early. 2X a few days apart if you can. Try to find the nest and soak it cuz the Queen will just keep in keepin on.
Az great link.
