$7 for 2cu.ft.

They also have those nice tomato cages that open up straight or form a triangle for $3/ea. I got five of those, a better sprayer for the new hose I got there (need a new one out front), and a cute ring sprinkler for the kids' plot (and for the kids to jump through). Add that to the winesap apple tree I got a couple of weeks back, and I'm wondering who's going out of business that Big Lots has such nice stuff for good prices.

1. They may not be going out of business, but lots of stores are cutting back
We have this brand spanking new Home Depot near us that has been sitting EMPTY for several months. And from what DH has heard, it's not likely to open soon, because HD is having a rough time of it. Our local Lowe's hasn't got the stock the usually have this time of year, either.

Big Lots should be smoking hot for the inventory many businesses are getting rid of.

3. I love that store!
I get most of my gardening tools there including drip hoses.

They are also a great store for bedding, pots & pans, small electronics.

4. Too bad you're not near Charleston.
Our county recycling plant does compost from yard waste. The price? $10/TON.

5. I just found out yesterday that our city has a huge compost pile.
It sounded in the paper like they give it away! I'm heading over tomorrow to see what's up.

6. We got ours free
On our land (mostly tall trees) we got stuck with a power line running down the middle  and since the trees were touching the hot lines and causing problems, the electric company came out and did some trimming/chipping. Instead of hauling it off to the dump we asked them to put it in a pile. That was four years ago, and that now mulch is wonderful for our garden and flowerbeds.
