What is causing this?



What is this bug, and is it bad?
and what about the speckles on the leaves??



What is causing my strawberry leaves to turn red, and is that a bad thing?

1. OK, I found the answer to "what" #1... leafminers

I am not looking for an organic solution to that problem. Any suggestions?

2. They usually don't do serious damage to the plant

So unless they're in a leaf crop like lettuce or mustard it's more unsightly than harmful. You can remove and destroy infested leaves to disrupt the population, and i think neem can work on them. I have Dutchmans pipe vine they get in every year,no harm done.

#2 looks like a leafhopper, and the speckles are where its been sucking on the plant. They can do alot of damage if you get a heavy infestation, not just from their feeding but also because they serve as vectors for some diseases. Ladybugs are good for controlling them, and insectical soap will work most of the time.

Ye, there are suddenly LOTS of them! It's like they came in overnight! The specks look like they stick up, on the leaves though, like little grains. I wonder if they are eggs???

I'll be shoppiing for some products today. Thanks for the input! :-)

4. OOPS! That should have said I AM looking for an ogrnaic solution!

I have read that it is not that damaging, but two of the plants these are on only have like 2-3 leaves, and Ii am afraid they might be getting too much damage since they don't have other leaves to collect te sunlight.

6. yeah, he dug a little indention in there and wiggled his little butt

to scoot down! It was hilarious! I was sprinkling cayenne pepper at the time that I saw him. I hope that won't drive him away!
