My first try at square foot gardening -- I really love it!

I still have my regular in-ground garden but this is really my favorite (AKA EASIEST!) part of my garden this year....thanks to all the DU gardeners who gave me the idea! I'm a total SF covert now.

I have a question for you. What did you use and where did you buy that green tube frame that I assume is there to support a cover? I'm going to have to use row covers and thought I'd build something similar.

Honestly I wanted to build one there for the longest time but hardee har har as far as the reality of my building skills. I probably would have bought a bunch of perfectly nice lumber and made road kill our of it!

Mine is the 2-tiered one you see here -- one side is 6" deep (for herbs, lettuce, etc.) and the other is 12" which you can do just about anything -- even potatoes, carrots, root stuff!

I love the canopy because when it's really hot like 100+ I can hang shade fabric over it and keep the stuff from cooking. We had a wacky string of 110-plus days last August that totally killed my kitchen garden, so I feel better prepared this time.

But the cover things have already come in handy!

I like that thing you found though.....that would be very useful in other parts of the garden, although, some of these infestations come from the ground (ie, snails) so it would be the most helpful if you were battling flying pests....

8. Ohhhh....it's part of the whole kit. No wonder I couldn't find it.

I've already got the frame and am just looking for the hoops. But I'm sure I can just use the plumbing PVC pipe or plastic electrical conduit instead. The snap together hoops just looked so easy and ready to go.

I have a friend who made covers like a wooden lanai over his beds....put on misters, lights, sprinklers everything and acts like what's the big deal? Little weekend project!
