Has anyone ever raised Romanesco broccoli?
I tried. I failed. It may have been too hot here, because temperatures went from 60's directly to 90's in May. In any case, I didn't have anything that developed that fractal head it is known for, out of 8 plants. So, is this stuff really hard to grow maybe, or did I screw up somehow, or what?

1. My first garden this year.
And I'm not growing broccoli. I do know that it's just too darn hot for my red leaf lettuce though.

2. Too hot is probably right.
Broccoli and cauliflower bolt quickly in the heat around here. Mature broccoli plants can stand a little frost -- you may have time to start a new crop in late summer for fall harvest if your hard frost date is late enough.

4. Our Broccoli was done 2 weeks ago
We have one plant left that for some reason started to grow a very nice second head. I'm not familiar with the variety you mentioned but we planted all of our broccoli sometime around the first of May here at 40 degrees North (just below the Mason Dixon line) and 2,000 feet.

5. Romanesco broccoli

See, it never developed the fractal head at all.
