Blue Himalayan poppy.
I think this is probably my first post in this group, but I wanted to share with you guys a photo of my first blue Himalayan poppy. Gardeners in Alaska are quite proud of their blue poppies, and I always wanted to grow some, so my husband and I finally picked up three little starter plants about a month ago from a very wonderful perennial nursery down in Homer. Now, if I can just keep them alive through the winter. I've been told they're quite temperamental -- want loose mulch (spruce branches) through the winter, and whatever you do, don't let them go to seed, pluck the flowers as soon as they're through blooming. The flower is truly this blue (no digital enhancement), about three inches across.

Feel free to post more! Pretty flowers are always nice to see! We should have a weekly "Veggie Porn" and "Flower Porn" thread, IMO!

5. I'd be interested to hear how they do down there
if you decide to grow some. I was under the impression that they prefer to be cool, but maybe if you have a cool, semi-shady spot they might be fine.

7. Beautiful!
Thank you for sharing.

The most beautiful flowers and remarkable gardens I have ever seen were in Alaska. Simply huge and neon. I really had hoped to get back to AK but it is not looking good for big time travel anymore.

Thanks for sharing this. It is a gorgeous flower. Good luck with it. :)

8. wow! that's lovely
I love poppies but they won't grow for me - I've only had minor success with the small Icelandic ones...
