Finally something to share! Photos
I was just checking this evening, expecting to be able to pick next week when I saw these beauties peeking up from the dirt under all those huge leaves. My garden is in an awful place, ill planned, thrown together quickly and late (but in very well composted horse manure) so I am having mixed luck. These were planted specifically for my goats. YAY! The first produce from the farm.

Who will help me plant these turnips? I will said Felix...

I will said Oscar...

And they did (which is why I have cilantro coming up all over the place) :).

They are getting a special dinner tonight! I am soooo happy! It has been far too long since I had a garden. 11 tomato plants with 16 tomatoes of various sizes :). I love living in the country!

1. Those are beautiful!
I don't think I could bear to give my first produce to goats, though!

We had our first beets tonight with dinner. One yellow, one red, both striped. :)

2. I will sneak a taste
for sure but they were planted specifically for the goats. Next year I will have a large section of garden specifically for the goats. That is if I get this monster built!

Mmmmm, beets. We grew those one year and dug up beets for about 3 years after. They were so good although the later ones got a little tough.

Are the blue flowers ageratum? Doesn't look ill planned to me.

4. Yes it is.
That is a little space between the entrance to the garage and the sidewalk to the house. It was not ill planned but it was my first foray into rock gardening. I did not do much, used plants I knew and liked and now the wildflowers from the pasture are coming up in it. It is a lovely little garden. My veggie garden is on a slope. It would be a good garden if not for that. Still it was thrown up in a matter of days and I am having a few problems with it. If the turnips all turn out like these I will be pleased with it. Carrots, not so good. Peppers are doing OK. Cilantro, not so good but everywhere. Lime Basil doing great. Turnips great. Old, free potatoes that the garden guy told me would never come up ended up giving me 18 great looking plants but I don't know about the potatoes yet. Tomatoes are mixed. I have had a lot of different problems with them. I do have tomatoes, not ready to harvest yet but the plants have been one thing after the other though. We will see.

Thanks for the lovely comment. It is basic and simple and I like it too. The addition of Moth Mullein and Vervain have been a nice surprise.

5. Reply to my own thread.
Damn. I have never tasted a turnip like these! They taste like a sweet radish and the texture is unreal. Smooth and nice to bite into, meaty, not hard and too crispy. I am in heaven tonight, my garden produces and my thumb is still green!

6. Looking good.
I haven't tried beets, but I do have some seeds. Are those the, er, unfortunate goats? If so, they seem to be getting along just fine.

7. LOL yes they are.
They seem to be over it pretty much. The funniest thing is that they look at each other and get a little rutty like they used to and then stop and look really puzzled and go on about their business. No more peeing on themselves or drinking it, I can pet them and not get all smelly and wet. No more weird noises, they made the strangest sounds I have ever heard. No more humping on the run, now that was really funny to see. It happened so fast. I kinda miss it and I do feel really guilty for doing it. Too late now.

Beets are really good fresh. Try them when you can.

8. Looks great, Muse!
I love turnips! Glad Felix and Oscar are getting a special treat after braving their ordeal. LOL

I pulled these out last weekend (my greens didn't do so well because of the storms and the grasshoppers):

9. Beautiful!
Turnips are very rewarding. I think I really like best growing root veggies for some reason. I would much rather dig for surprises or watch the tops and pull out beauties like those than anything although I will not rule out the reward of picking my tomatoes!

Those are lovely. My greens were a bit eaten and some lost their color by draping over the strand of electric wire so I removed those for my picture. Not a great picture but the first recorded produce from my farm. :)

The boys pigged out so much that 30 minutes after feeding them they were tucked into their little Igloo and asleep.
