My first watermelon!

Ain't he cute? I swear when I went to bed last night it wasn't there, then when I got up this morning, there it was about 6 inches long, fat, and green.

Maybe it's some kind of a pod? Perhaps when I go to sleep tonight it will take over my body.

1. Ahh he is cute!
They do kinda grow overnight. My cucumbers do the same thing. There they are, cute little things, then the next morning they are bigger than my hand.

Better get an alarm system. It will be big enough to get you before long. :) Congratulations!

5. I'm picking 3 to 4 cukes everyday now.
My neighbors, I'm quite sure, are starting to call me the crazy cucumber guy now.

7. Well if you gotta be crazy
then I can't think of much better to be known as crazy for. Crazy tomato guy? I know, I know, crazy rutabaga guy. There ya go!

I love it. It will not be too much longer before people who know how and do garden will be anything but crazy, they just might be everyone's best friend.

4. Oh no-- that's a zucchini hiding in the watermelon patch.
They're sneaky. Don't EVER turn your back on squash. :D

Congrats on #1 watermelon!

8. Awwwww!
It's a cute little bugger.

I am sooooo jealous. I had the *worst* time getting melons started this year. Took me three times to get them past the sprout stage without getting devoured by something or other. Finally, I have three cantaloupe vines and one watermelon. The watermelon is an heirloom called Moon and Stars. the melons are speckled like the night sky, which I knew, but interestingly, so are the plants.

11. Yay! I hope we get one! Good on you.
I planted the tiny watermellons. We have a short growing season here in the Great Northwest. Good thing the Farmers Markets bring farmers from Eastern Washinton.

I have hope for my tinys!
