Out of interest..
has anyone seen a certain now-locked thread on GD?

Apparently if you don't believe in chemtrails you can't be left-wing.

3. I saw it.
"An experiment with polymers and metal" sounds an awful lot like they were tossing out mylar tinsel and seeing if it would fog a radar signal. I seem to remember there were a lot of such experiments at one time in the early days of Ronnie's Star Wars program.

However, there is a world of difference between that and the conspiracy nut's "chemtrail," the spraying of civilian populations with noxious chemicals from 6 miles up.

Honestly, if they wanted to spray us with something and have it in enough concentration to bother us, they'd use crop dusters.

EXACTLY! That is the most frustrating thing with the chemtrail woos. NO FREAKING CLUE about how things disperse in the upper atmosphere, and how even if you wanted to spread something up there you'd have absolutely no way to control where it went.

6. The tinsel is "chaff." It predates WWII.

Some people make hats out of it.

Usual Irrelevant Trivia From A Shill For Evil Aerospace Companies: aside from manufactured counter-measures like chaff, radar systems will Do Funny Things because of perfectly natural phenomena like clutter, ducting or false returns.

This probably accounts for quite a few UFO stories.

Due to a combination of geographical and meterological freakishness, one area famous for strange radar sightings is the Persian Gulf.
