UFO Popcorn time!

For me, the real fun starts when one UFO enthusiast mentions sightings by Armstrong and Aldrin and another thinks the Moon landings were fake.

5. Woo begets woo
And once you truly believe there's an far-flung, ultra-powerful, unseen (except by conspiracists), evil cabal working against you it's not too big of a leap to believing in all sorts of things. Conspiracist beliefs are essentially Manichaeisitic in their nature so it's common for believers of conspiracist narratives to believe that the conspiracy is either somehow working in cahoots, or as willing dupes, with an even more far-flung, ultra-powerful, unseen force for evil. Or on the flip side, working to suppress the intervention of a far-flung, ultra-powerful, unseen force for good. And while there's no discernible proof of any of this fantasy, the signs and portents are there for those who have had the truth revealed to them.

I don't think it's any surprise that in the past decade or so we've seen a sort of merging of various strains of conspiracist thought; e.g. new agey, pagan beliefs, fundamentalist Christian beliefs, and far right-wing conspiracy theories. Of course, many of the old, familiar suspects are out there encouraging this melding of the paranoid minds like Lyndon Larouche. Another example would be David Icke's disturbing ties to neo-Nazi and white supremacist groups who often promote his garbage in the U.S. and Canada. Then there's Alex Jones... The woo for all seasons.

6. Exactly right, sal.
Sometimes those PCTs have a few gaps - and lo and behold another PCT meshes right in! For instance, HOW did the Illuminati get the technology to remote-control planes into buildings? FROM THE ALIENS OF COURSE!!! It all makes sense now!

10. "The woo for all seasons."
Heh. An apt description of the Alex Jones product.

9. How many people need to be lying for the moon landing to be fake?
That's a question prosecutors often ask in closing argument. How many people need to be lying for the defense to be believeable? If the answer is "a lot" then the alternate explanation is what is unlikely. It would have been harder to fake the moon landings than to do them for real. Otherwise, the Russians would not have been fooled as they agree with NASA.
