Finnfan, salvorhardin, and everyone: what do you think of a Psychology/ Brain Sciences forum?
On Finnfan's cognitive dissonance thread on GD:P, there was a suggestion by Msmcghee that it would be a good idea to have a Psychology/ Brain Sciences forum. I would be very interested in such a forum myself, but am a little concerned that unless very precisely specified, it might attract the woo-woos who want to discuss their auras and the wilder reaches of ESP. What do others here think?

1. I proposed the idea maybe about a year ago...
There was concern that there wouldn't be enough participation, and also that the topic itself was narrowly defined enough such that discussion could just as easily take place in the science forum or here.

Personally, I'm still down with the idea :hi:

2. It would be a woo woo magnet here
DU is a great place for all sorts of discussion groups and I'm in a shockingly large number of them. However, some groups are just not a great idea and this is one of them.

Health attracts enough nutcases, people who really should be shown the way to the Alt.Health forum but whom the mods inexplicably tolerate.

I think a separate forum like this one would soon become unreadable for those of us who are stuck firmly in reality.

6. agreed
unless we made it a subforum of SSPG, I doubt it would work in the way we would want it to

3. I'd find it interesting but considering the amount of woo
in the SCIENCE forum lately, I'm sure we would get a lot of idiots..Look what happens anytime you mention autism here..I now kind of flinch when I see an autism thread anywhere but here.

4. Was wondering whether it might be better...
to call it the 'Neuroscience' rather than 'Psychology' forum? We might not attract enough people (the point Varkam raised); but we might also attract fewer of the woos who want to explore their inner Indigo Child.

5. I'd really enjoy this, but alas I don't think this is the place for it
Warpy's remarks mirror my own thoughts.
