I just got into Grad School
I will be attending Kent State University in Library and Information Science starting this fall. I have spent a year out of college, and I honestly can't wait for classes to start again.

3. Congrats!
Just be careful about spreading your scientific propaganda will you? They have scary National Guards in that area, and we all know you are a terrarist.....

Seriously, congratulations and go luck.:toast:

5. luckily
I am staying safely in Columbus, where they have a branch program. The National Guard can look all they want, but they'll find nothing but a skeptical phantom...

7. You don't happen to go to a Tuesday night Atheist/Agnostic meetup, do you?
I live in Columbus as well, and my wife has started to attend these meetings. She really likes it, although I've only made it to a couple sunday brunch meetings.

6. Congratulations!
We need skeptics and freethinkers on the frontlines, and libraries tend to attract IDiots and fundies looking to defend their beliefs by making sure people don't read something objectionable.

9. i'm split
on whether I want to work in an academic library, public library, or school library. The latter two would be better for that, but i really like academic settings.

I'll have to see who pays more, being a money grubbing shill ;)

I'm in the same boat with you - I've been out of school for about two years and am super-psyched about classes starting this fall.

:toast: A toast to you!

20. i never thought i would miss class
but it was nice to have a goal. I've been grinding this last year, just paying the bills, and not getting ahead. It'll be great to be able to feel like i'm improving myself

12. Excellent and congratulations!
I can't even begin to imagine how those courses have changed over the last couple of decades. From card catalogs to the Internet - how much material in those classes today wasn't even conceivable in the 80s?

19. hell, the 90's
so much of library work is AV and technology focused now, beyond anything we could have imagined back in the Olden Days of the 20th Century

13. I got my MLIS in 1991
So congratulations, and welcome to the world of Library Land.

First of all, I have been gainfully employed in my field since 1992. I now make a very generous salary as a special librarian. In anticipation of the usual stupid questions you will be asked like, "Oh, you need a degree to check out books?"...I spend a lot of time with the administrative side of databases and doing technical stuff. I never have a boring day, although I have had some "interesting" days, especially when I was a public librarian.

If you have not already, please consider joining the ALA- www.ala.org. Student membership rates are very low.

Congratulations! :hi:

16. i didn't realize that you could join the ALA
without being an actual librarian. I spent three years working for the Ohio State University Libraries while I was an undergrad, and I got one of my recommendations from the curator of rare books, where I worked. I'll definitely join!

Congratulations and stuff!

I hope school doesn't cut down much on your DU time. I like having you around!

Librarians have always been some of my favorite people. They're damned amazing.
