I read
Pharyngula most days. I don't always agree with PZ, and the site gets more than its fair share of nutjob posters, but there's a lively community there, and there's usually a thread worth reading.
Here's one example, on cancer research and the value of evidence-based medicine in improving survival rates.
What jumps out at you are the graphs. Here are two graphs which provide a stark illustration of how science has improved chances for kids diagnosed with acute lymphoblastic leukemia:
If I'd been unfortunate enough to have had ALL as five-year-old, I would almost certainly not have reached the age of ten. A five-year-old diagnosed today has an excellent chance of survival. But in order for the situation to continue, funding is needed, and there the picture isn't quite so rosy.
